Small works pretty well

Bought this so I could have YouTube and other free streaming sites along with a free ad blocker and VPN on my smart TV. It runs a bit slow by itself but with only 2 ram that's expected.
I have the worst time with YouTube being slow/glitchy sometimes and on more than one occasion (with YouTube only) the screen will go black after a while ( I can still hear the sound tho). That maybe YouTube acting up more than the PC, I dunno.
I have no issues with free streaming sites...so...for the price its not bad. Would recommend the mini mouse/keyboard accessory.

Tested with Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04, running headless and wired ethernet. Overall, the whole install process and usage was pretty painless, except for one major issue. It couldn't shutdown/restart on older kernels! Throughout all of 20.04 (kernel 5.4), it would throw a ```BUG: soft lockup``` error on shutdown/restart. This issue went away on 22.04 (kernel 5.15).

The likely cause is due to the CPU choice of a Z8350, as bay trail/cherry trail has been historically buggy on Linux. I'd recommend spending just a little more for a mini PC that uses newer gemini lake CPUs (ex. N4000). Otherwise, this mini PC is it's one of the cheapest offerings on the market and offers good value if you are willing to accept this one caveat.

I purchased this for a laser cutter and I needed it this weekend. It arrived friday evening, cool. Plastic seal was broken, not panicking, but concerned. Everything looked right and was present, okay, cool. I boot it up and its asking for the password for someone named Neil. Yup, I got a used unit when I thought I was buying a new one. Be careful!

Good low-power Linux server

This computer is a good alternative to popular single board computers, which are very hard to come by right now. I'm using this computer to run an ad-blocking DNS server on my home network. I've tried Debian 11, RHEL 9, and even FreeBSD, and all work flawlessly. (FreeBSD does require an additional boot parameter to prevent the system from freezing at boot, however.) Currently this computer is running Debian 11, with no desktop environment, and almost always without a screen, keyboard, or mouse attached.

So far the system has been very stable and reliable, and performs well with the applications it runs. I did not try out the copy of Windows that was installed from the factory, as I had no intention of running Windows on this device. That being said, the hardware is underpowered, and I doubt it would handle much beyond basic web browsing, as a desktop PC.

If you're looking for a very affordable, low-power system for running light Linux applications, this cannot be beat.
