I have only done two test fires. It assembles ok. It stores most of the pieces inside of itself. I did not come with a bag for storage so it is a bit of a mess. The parts don't fit tightly so there seems to be a problem getting the burn to get the full heat. I used dried oak kindling for my test burn. The way it is constructed there is smoke coming out of the cracks where the vertical pipe slides in. It did warm up oil I put in a skillet but it never really got to full sizzle and oh my goodness all that soot on the outside of the skillet. I will continue to experiment with it and since we camp in the winter. I hope to get it to burn better and just use it for sitting outside instead of a big fire that uses a lot of expensive wood.

I already have a folding rocket stove similar to this, but I got this because it has a couple of extra features that I really wanted to try out.
First and foremost was the air door/damper so that you can control the amount of air and effectively throttle back your fire once you get it going. This worked great, unlike my other stove that can only burn at full-heat, this really allows for some control of the fire. That being said, you can also restrict it so much that you don't get an efficient burn and you wind up with a lot of soot, so it does take some practice to use and you're still limited by the relatively small volume of wood that you can fit in the feed tube.
The second feature I wanted to try out was the ash tray. I was less impressed with the ash tray than I was with the door. This tray isn't terribly tough and I don't know how long it'll be able to hold up to the heat from the stove. Plus, I think it's still just easier to dump this thing over on it's top to knock out the old ash.

Assembled inside and had a good look at it before breaking it down and putting it away. A few weeks later I took it out into the snow and set it up again outside. Wasn't difficult but I still needed the directions....lots of parts. I never did get it to sit level in the frozen snow, but it works fine.

I miss wood heat and enjoyed working the fire. Played around with burning old dry driftwood, cardboard and tall dead grass--it doesn't hold much wood but can take scraps and small branches. Took awhile to get a good fire, but was able to evaporate chunks of icy snow in a cast iron pan.

This stove is drafty, which is helpful to an extent. It's plenty sturdy, but heavier than is practical to take along camping. It doesn't fold up as compact as I expected--the lid doesn't lay flat or latch and it's tricky to get the parts inside. Will need to find a heavy bag for it so it doesn't leave a trail of pieces.

I do think it might work for a long term camp--would want to work with it some more to ensure I could master it well enough to depend on it.
