Bike is indeed lighter than others, including high end very expensive competitors.
Seems similar to the EARLY RIDER BELTER 16 (450-500$)
Important to know: handlebar is slightly wider and lower than the average 16" bike. So it's for a more agressive ride. The weight makes it easy to handle though.

Great little bike, great customer service

We're not a die-hard biking family - we all ride for fun, but at leisurely paces. No mountain biking/road race fanatics here. So I approached the idea of spending over $200 (heck, over $100) on a 16" bike with a whole lot of skepticism...until I borrowed a lightweight, freewheel 12" bike from a friend (who is a mountain biking fanatic) and my 3 year old daughter was riding it completely on her own three 10-minute sessions later. This 16" bike is a great balance of nice hardware and reasonable cost for what you get (the rear freewheel with handbrakes, the frame light enough for a preschooler to pick up). My daughter is now three and a half, and is just now big enough to ride this. She's having a great time with it and likely will for a couple of years. Worth it, and I expect to be able to hand this down once she outgrows it.

Assembly was straightforward, although the instructions are pretty thin. I did have to adjust the front brake to allow the wheel to spin freely. No instructions for assembly of the plastic belt (chain) guard, but I figured it out.

Update: We've gone on several rides on this now, and her comfort with the bike keeps growing. She can both lift it over a curb and ride it off a curb unassisted, and she's now fast enough that I have to run to keep up with her (plus? Minus? YOU DECIDE!). She's eager to ride her "silver bike" and hops back on after the occasional fall. Great bike.

2nd update: We lost one of the nuts and bolts from the front wheel on a ride. Belsize customer service was excellent - they responded promptly, replaced the missing parts for the cost of shipping, and were all around very easy to deal with.

First off, this is definitely not a Walmart bike. It is extremely light, has a good mix of components, and seems well made. The hand brushed frame is beautiful. The belt drive system is amazing and one less thing to worry about. I put this bike together but left off the pedals so my daughter could use it as a balance bike. After 4 days of gliding through the neighborhood I added the pedals and let her go. She took off immediately. I think the lightness of the bike, as well as the comfortable geometry helped get her going. I did bend the end of the brake cable and wire tie it back to the frame because it poked out and bothered her a bit. I also replaced the seat post clamp with a quick release because her friends wanted to ride her bike too. Honestly this should have been included from the start, along with a kickstand. But these items are very cheap and easily added. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. My daughter is now a good rider and I credit the lightness of this frame for boosting her confidence.
