Good start, horrible end

Initially, I absolutely loved this dongle! It appeared to give me the Bluetooth connectivity that my gaming desktop's built in m.2 wifi and Bluetooth card just couldn't provide. No more dropped or unsuccessful Bluetooth audio or Xbox controller connections that stuttered - everything connected immediately and maintained a lag-free connection... until two weeks later when inexplicably Windows' Bluetooth settings would show my deviced "paired" or even "connected" when they were clearly not and were still actively searching for the PC and trying to connect. Even more infuriatingly, trying to remove said paired devices and just re-pair them again WAS A NIGHTMARE - impossible to do! Every time I tried to remove a device I would get an error message that device could not be removed. I tried editing the registry, starting and stopping Bluetooth services (not just the Bluetooth radio on and off), I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for this dongle and NOTHING - those devices were etched into Windows like the Ten Commandments in stone. Infuriated, I just uninstalled the drivers, pulled the dongle out, re-enabled my built-in Bluetooth, re-paired all devices and voila! No more problems. This is going back to Amazon and I'd suggest you look elsewhere.

Works good, but be aware of USB placement

This unit worked well when plugged into a Windows desktop. After about a week, the Bluetooth adapter would randomly undiscovered. I would have to unplug and re-plug unit to restore function. After some frustration, I found the device failure to be due to the Bluetooth adapter being on the same USB bus as a TP-Link wireless adapter. Once I separated these two into difference USB buses, I have had no issues.

Great for older machines

I have now installed 3 of these and they work great so far. On old Lenovo laptops and a 14 year old desktop that I built from component parts. Increased range over the old 4.0 hardware three to four times distance. Still using the old 4.0 speakers and head phones but the range is increased anyway. The device is plug and play. I DO RECOMMEND first going into 'device manager' and disabling the native (4.0) bluetooth function then restarting the computer. You won't have a conflict. Don't uninstall the original, just rt click on it and choose disable. Then restart and and insert the new 5.0 dongle. Windows 10 will find it and install whatever driver it needs. Give it a little time to set it up and make it good to go. Should get a notice that your new hardware is ready. This is a great little improvement.

Refused to pair with a Samsung flagship phone, Tech Support is useless

Adapter installs easily, plugging into a USB port on a desktop, for example. Running Windows 10, the device driver installed automatically. At that point I thought I was good to go. I attempted to pair my Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra with my PC. Both devices recognized each other. But I could not get the two to pair. Now you must understand I've linked countless bluetooth devices of significant variety over the years, run into the occasional glitch, but nothing like this. I reached out to TP-Link Tech Support, only to discover that is a fruitless endeavour. After some time passed their first response was to check the make and model of my smartphone. After some more time passed their next response was identical to what they tell other consumers in posts I found online, ie, they refer one to a link with a series of questions, one of which concerns compatibility of certain devices. Tech Support concluded my phone was incompatible with the adapter. (This is a smartphone that pairs with virtually EVERY other device with which I've attempted to pair it.) They offered no other solution. Only problem? I checked their list of compatible devices and, sure enough, the Galaxy Note 20 is included as PASS. I'm returning this adapter. And given the abyssmal performance by the Tech who "responded" to my request for a solution, I'll no longer purchase TP-LINK products.

I have owned several TP-Link products in the past and they were good. The UB500 is one for which they should feel shame. I have spent 8 plus hours trying to install this on my desktop running Win 10 x64. The system keeps reporting a Code 43 disconnect for the UB500. TP Link support gave it their best shot. All failed. Finally they resorted to advising me down load 3rd party app which would fix the problem. They were not kidding. I told them I would think about that solution and promptly got a return ticket for their product. I then ordered a ZEXMTE for replacement and have been told by some owners of this product, it works great. So until TP Link does their due diligence and cleans up the UB500, I wouldn't have one if they gave it to me.
