I got these for my daughter (almost age 4) because she loves to help as I repot plants in our patio garden. The tools are perfect for her small hands and she loves having her own shovel to move soil around. After being disappointed to find so many plastic gardening tool sets I was glad to find one that actually uses metal, and they seem to be sturdily set into their wooden handles. The tote bag is also a nice touch and makes it easy to put everything away in one place. It also seems to be well made; the construction appears solid to me, but it really has just functioned as a place to put the tools away after our work so it’s being put to very gentle use.
The gloves are a little too big on her but I expected that. She likes to wear them anyway, there’s plenty of time for her grow into them, and so far she has not gotten any from splinters from digging around in potting soil.
We don’t really use the included apron because I just put her in clothes we don’t mind getting dirty, but I don’t expect much durability from it as it is made of some kind of plasticky material that would just make her sweaty, and from past experience doesn’t hold up well to use. I’m not factoring the apron into my review because my main interest was in the tools that are holding up well and actually function as gardening tools rather than simple pretend-play toys.
Even so, my daughter has enjoyed using the apron along with a cleaning set she already had, and the plastic material works out great because she likes to use a spray bottle during that type of play. The apron helps keep the worst of any drips off her so she is relatively dry once she’s done.
