Weakest of the series and I like this series.

Really like this series. The author has created a great character - warrior Marine now in civilian life with a pickup rebuilt with a redwood bed - and he also tells a good story. Unfortunately, this time the story is told in a series of flashbacks. It is a format that is difficult to pull off, especially if the flashbacks are not about the protagonist. So half the book is about the bad guys . Bottom line - it doesn’t work . Too much about the evildoers and too little about Mr Ash.

In my humble opinion, this was the best Peter Ash novel so far. I loved every minute of it. Petrie is a born story teller, and the way the novel was organized and put together was genius. Having read the first six in the series, the reader knows Peter very well. There was no need to expound on what being in a police car or a jail cell would do to him. So the author didn't tell us. We just shuddered because we knew. That's how well Petrie's readers know his characters. And we are a loyal bunch. Bravo, Mr. Petrie, keep 'em coming! I am ready for the next one right now!!

The characters weren't very likeable or relatable. Very little Peter Ash in the book. This book is the worst in the Peter Ash series. It was a struggle to get through the book.

#7 in the Peter Ash series may be his best yet. Falls in the "unputdownable" category without fail.
Rather than expand this book review, let me finish with the following:
Run, don't walk, to your nearest bookstore and/or download ASAP. You won't be disappointed. This is a barn burner.

Nick Petrie uncorks yet another skillful and energetic Peter Ash novel...never a dead moment.

Beginning as two separate stories, they eventually mesh into one with Ash on the precarious trail to rescue a pregnant teenager from her treacherous and dodgy serial-killer subjugator. As always, submitting is not in Ash’s repertoire.

A gripping, gritty crime adventure full of gusto and pursuit...Petrie’s gift of writing and storytelling are first-rate.
