too much hassle for price

In order to get it to work (every time), you must shut off your unit with no other pitcher or the blending cup on it. Turn it on without the cup or pitcher and place the cup on the base with the cap mostly tight. hold the base of the unit and tighten the cap until the indicator starts to read. It may be so tight that you will again need to use the base of the machine to apply torque to the cup to slightly loosen it before you take it off of the base to get the rest by hand. Might as well just buy a separate personal sized blender for the price and effort of this poorly designed unit.

I live on my own and really only needed the base and cup attachment, but I'm happy to have the sauce bowl and will probably use it in the future. Regardless, this thing is amazing! Put in some fruit, juice, and yogurt and in a minute and a half I have a breakfast smoothie to start off my day! I can't get over how easy it is, and when I come back home from work I put the base back on the cup with a little hot water and soap inside, blend for about 15 seconds, and I have a cleaned up and base ready to use the next morning!

The cup's cap is very sturdy, and leak proof; it does not open easy, but that is fine for me while I'm lugging all my other crap for work because I don't have to hold it upright.

One thing to note, when I first got this it took a few minutes for my vitamix to recognize the base. It stayed in idle mode (--:--) for about 5 minutes. So when you first get it, but the cup on the base and put the base on and leave it with the vitamix for a few minutes. After that it recognizes it immediately!

I don't regret this buy in the slightest!

I love the idea of this product, and overall I would still buy it. But it’s not the “god” of blending tools. The blending power is notably worse off than the main blender. If any powder (protein powder, etc) get stuck at the bottom of the cup (top when blending) it doesn’t blend well. You have to take it off, unscrew and use a long item to dislodge and start again.
Also, it is a pain to even start the blending process altogether. The Vitamix motor only recognizes these if the blades are screwed on perfectly. There is a small arrow on the blade part and another small arrow on the cylinder and you have to match these arrows up both on when you first put the blades on and than again when done screwing (there is a small range). For people like me that has trouble seeing small things this is a continuous frustrating challenge.
I still like them, they are convenient for a quick blend. I find if you’re blending non powered items, or thick (such as peanut butter) it’s great. Blending watermelon, banana, a few nuts together is great.
If you buy with the understanding these aren’t going to blend like the main unit, your fine. Don’t have expectations that everything blends amazing in this, just doesn’t. But they are simple and convenient for those quick out the door blends, with the right substances.

I don't get what all the bad review are about with this. Everything works as expected. No problem with the cup being read, and you don't really have to tighten it all that tight.
