I usually like to spend a few days with a new item before I write a review. I got these TaoTronics earbuds earlier today and they blew me away right out of the box. As with every TaoTronics product I've bought through the years, these came tastefully packaged. But let's face it. We don't buy stuff because of the way it's packaged. We buy stuff based on how well it works. I like everything about these earbuds!
I've had two previous wireless earbuds before from other companies. My BIGGEST complaint - and one that almost stopped me from getting these - was that they constantly fell out of my ears. They all had other little issues that bugged me, but why spend a lot of money on something that you're going to lose. It happened to me twice. When I got these, I experimented with how to get them into my ears. I watched YouTube videos and read blogs. In the process I saw that ALL of the photos showed the earbuds at a different angle than I had been wearing them. I assumed that the arm should point straight down. What I saw, though, was that people wear them with the arm at a 30 to 45 degree angle. I did that and - voila! - those suckers stayed in my ears. You can thank me for this latter. :)
We buy earbuds/earphones for the sound they deliver to our ears. I use mine 90% for listening to books via Audible, 5% music and 5% phone calls. I plan to try them, as well, with my computer for Zoom calls, but haven't done that yet. Here's what I can report. Yowser! Great sound. You notice it more with music than books/podcasts. There is a rich bass sound along with crisp treble. I might boost the amount of music I listen to just because of it. But since I listen to so much spoken word that was the quality of sound that matters most to me. It's crisp and clear.
I also considered how much I liked the style of these earbuds when deciding whether to buy them. I can tell you that they look as good in person as they do in the photos. I really like the metalic bluish accent. Not as subtle as the solid white options (that's you, Apple), but striking. I liked it enough that I've even included a photo of me wearing them. I've never included a picture myself in a review!
Other things that I love. . .
Voice commands! "Hey TT. Get my coffee." :) Not really. Maybe down the road. But you can tell the earbuds to do a lot of stuff. I know this has been standard in AirPods for awhile, but I'm not willing to spend more than $100 on earbuds/phones, so I'm never enjoyed voice commands before. You can turn them on, off, boost or reduce the volume, go to the next song/chapter and, of course, answer a call. But you can do even more. For instance, I just gave it this voice command: "Hey TT. How much battery do I have left?" It told me in my ears that my iPhone was at 66% and my earbuds at 73%. I'm constantly looking at news. I figured this was a long-shot, but I offered this command: "Hey TT. Anything happening in the news?" Almost instantly it took me to a news summary created by National Public Radio. Wow. . .
The jury is still out on battery life. Maybe I'll come back after a few days and update. When I unpacked it, I stuck it on the charger for a bit. It mostly charged, but I didn't give it long enough for a full charge before I started using the earbuds. I got a in-ear notice less than 3 hours later that I had about 10 minutes left. TaoTronics claims 4+ hours. I think I might get that with a full charge. Not knowing is why I only gave battery life 4 stars. I suspect I might come back and raise it to the full 5.
So to sum up. . .
These are great friggin' earbuds. And reasonably priced to boot. What's not to like? Nothing yet. Go ahead. Spend your money on them.
