This is a great entry level reel. I bought a 2wt rod and needed a reel. I didn’t want to spend too much so I took a chance with this reel. It has been great. Smooth movement on the reel. Great reel!

Nice reel for an even nicer price. I needed a hefty reel to counterbalance my 11' nymph rod, and this reel is perfect. The rod is a 4wt, and I run a 5WF line for dry flies, with a typical dry fly leader, and use a 24' 20lb leader butt for nymphing (so none of the actual line comes out of the guides). One line does both and I can readily swap when conditions change. I did have to grind a bit off one of the reel feet in order to get it to fit the reel seat, but I frequently find a need to do that. There's something a little sloppy in the construction, so there's occasionally some rubbing between the reel and the frame, but a little pushing or pulling on the edge of the reel quickly resolves that. This is not my primary setup; this is one piece of the equipment I leave at a relative's house so I can fish when I visit without having to lug along a bunch of gear.

I like the feel of this reel. Smooth retrieve and ample drag. I have only caught trout with this but some have been larger fish and in larger/stronger rivers.

Update: After using the reel for some time now I had to lower the rating. I still like the feel of the reel and drag but the finish is poor. I am not rough on reels but not gentle either. The finish has wore off in several places. I have seen the same reel in fly shops and it appears this is a different (cheaper) finish.

The design of this reel is awesome as it holds 150 yds of backing and a 5 wgt. line. This reel can easily hold a 6 wgt. line and plenty of backing as well. Balances out on a sub 3 oz 9 ft 5 wgt. quite nicely. Fished it 4 days last week and it preformed flawlessly. Caught lots of fish and with a fair number of 16 to 18"ers. Drag is smooth and built out of qualiity parts and the best thing is it cost the price of a really nice fly line. My philosophy has always been that a trout fly reel is something to hold the line. We survived years with just a click and pawl drag system. Now we have beautiful CNCed works of art that are incredibly light and machined perfectly but cost an arm and a leg. Hey if you can afford them go for it- they are worth it; but if you want to save some money buy a really good fly line and put it on this reel. I think you will be happy. This reel costs less than a replacement spool for most new machined CNC type large arbors. If you smash it on the rocks or drop it over the side of a drift boat you can buy another. Buy the CNC reels for your saltwater 10 weight.
