If you don't have a Intel motherboard/CPU that supports SGX. Which is a Intel security feature. Cyberlink PowerDVD will not play 4K blue ray. Your video card also has to support HDR and be Intel graphics. So basically, if you are on a AMD platform (Ryzen for me) you're likely S.O.L.
I have HDR enabled on Windows 10 as I use my Samsung 4K HDR TV as my dispaly. PowerDVD has some ridiculous requirements in my opinion. PowerDVD will play regular Blu-rays though no prob.
DVDFab player. I tried that. Looks like it does support 4k disc play back. But this LG drive isn't supported by them. So it won't work. Again, regular Blu-ray playback works with no issue
VLC player(freeware) can play regular Blu-ray. Though you have to do a add a couple files to VLC to get regular Blu-ray playback. I have not been able to get 4K blu-ray playback with VLC. Even though, apparently it supports it.
But I know it can play 4K blu-ray because I'm currently ripping a few of my 4K blu-rays to my computer.
The LG UHD drive itself still gets a 5 star. Its fast and has a quality feel to it. It will play 4K blu-ray if you have the right gear(Intel).
