So, I finally got my hands on this speaker. The reason I wanted to to check it out is because I own two phantom Reactors made by Devialet, and LOVE them. So, when I read that Devialet provided the audio components for this speaker I just had to get one.
I’ve had it a few days and here are my thoughts on this speaker:
First, I didn’t care for the sound when I first used it. But, I soon realized this speaker works best when placed on a desk you’re sitting at, or on a nightstand next to your bed. I really think this speakers shines up close and personal, more than it does setting it on a table in a room that you’re trying to fill with sound. When you are closer to it, the bass is better, the details are better, and it sounds great. It really does have that ‘Devialet sound’, but on a much smaller scale, and a little less bass than Devialet is known for.
The quality of the speaker is ok. Before I got it I read it was heavy and the quality was great. I don’t think it has much weight to it at all (not that it matters because with the ‘push-push’ technology in this speaker, it does not move at all). And, the quality Of the speaker itself is just ok, when you pick it up to move it, it feels like a cheap plastic speaker. And the material that surrounds it is not real tight, so it moves easily.
I’m not a Bluetooth fan because I like music that is not lossy, or compressed in any way. I like to hear music as the Artist intended it to be heard and that brings me to the next thing. This speaker has no airplay support (come on Belkin, really?!!!), and the only way to hear higher res music is through Chromecast. The problem with that is that only Deezer Hifi and Tidal HiFi offer support for Chromecast. Anything else, your stuck using Bluetooth to stream music, and believe me there is a HUGE difference using this speaker with Chromecast (with Bluetooth turned off). This is what is keeping me from returning this speaker. Use Chromecast, and a high-res music streaming service and you will keep this speaker, for sure. If you buy it for Bluetooth only streaming, you are waisting your $300, there are cheaper options for Bluetooth that sound just as good, or better.

No WiFi (without having to use Chromecast)
Not enough High-res music streaming supports Chromecast, so your stuck with only 2
Material covering speaker could be a lot tighter around the speaker.
Can’t pair two together for a stereo pair
With that being said. I’m keeping this speaker. I think the price should be $200 instead of $300, but I understand why the pricing is what it is, and I’m willing to pay that to have such an enjoyable speaker to use at my desk and in bed.
