Unlike its larger 6TB cousin, this 4TB drive runs off of the USB3 port alone, which makes it portable. The 4TB drive is bigger than a 2TB drive but still fits easily in a backpack along with a laptop computer. I've had the drive for a few months now, and it has run flawlessly. Set up was just plug and play on a Windows 10 PC since the NTFS formatting is 100% compatible. There is setup software for an Apple computer probably to format it to exFAT. The drive shuts down after a while when not in use. Data transfer speeds are good through a USB3 connection. External USB3 drives are not speed-demons but are very convenient and reliable.

This is a small device which packs a lot of power. It attached easily via USB to my Mac and lets me back up things and take them with me whenever I want to. Hassle free - it works great.

Feels really nice in the hands. The top black cover and the front side edge are metal, the rest is sturdy plastic. Partitioned it three times and backed up my laptop. No complaints. Pretty quite. Can hear the spinning sound if you hold the hard drive up to your ears, which is normal for spinning HDDs.

I wish the solid-state version of this was a little more affordable. But for now, these things really are the best bang for the buck. 5 terabytes for around $100 usually. You can't beat that price for the amount of storage you get.

It works off of the supplied data transfer cable, that connects to your computer/laptop. So you don't need an external AC power source.
