I was just about to return these because of the warranty. These have the standard HGST warranty (when I purchased through Oceanside). If you go to HGST's website, it'll tell you the expiration date for your serial. *******EDIT******* I bought 2 more drives, and these were shipped by Platinum Micro. NO WARRANTY. Returned those...
My current drives are predominantly WD Gold 4TBs. with some enterprise Hitachi 4TB as well. The WD Gold and Hitachi drives are noisier than the Ultrastars. Yes, there are some clicks, but that's to be expected with an enterprise drive. Overall, the noise is very low and muted, even the clicks. I'm actually fairly impressed in comparison... Unless you plan on using this in a desktop computer (and I don't know why anyone would), in a server setup they're quiet.
So far the temp on these is fairly low, hovering in the 27-29 degree range, which is rather chilly. They are being precleared in an open USB adapter right now, so that's probably why. I prefer to be in the 35-39 range, and they'll probably go up to that range once they go inside the server.
They are a little pricey for 18TB in comparison with a 14TB, but the technology inside will hopefully make up for it. I thought about shucking the Ultrastars from the Easystore USB drives, but for an extra $50 you get 3 extra years of warranty, which for me is worth it at this price point.
So far I have nothing to complain about whatsoever.
