If you’re reading this Amazon review, it’s because you were actually contemplating spending $350 on a battery grip for your new R5 or R6. I am a professional videographer and photographer, and I do this for a living. Basically three reasons why I think this is an absolute must have. Although it may seem shallow, the sheer visual aesthetic of having a bigger body with the battery grip makes the camera look way more professional to others, especially clients. The thing looks literally like an RF version of a 1dx.
This is by far the best functioning battery grip I’ve ever seen. It makes sense as to why they had to make a new battery grip for this camera, because the speed and functionality of it is exactly like you were actually using the Rio built-in buttons. It is quite literally an extension of the body and all of its features. Not to mention the extended battery life by 2x as well.
Lastly, in my opinion, this is by far the most comfortable to hold battery grip I have ever used. Granted, I’ve only used two battery grips in my life. But with that said, this is by far the most comfortable and robust in my hand without it being too much. It feels great, gives you an amazing grip, stands out to a client as looking professional, and will all in all improve your performance on shoots.
Is it expensive? Absolutely. That definitely freaking sucks. But I would say it is well worth it in the time it saves you as an effective tool in your toolbelt.
