The auto detailer had about 6-12 of these loaded up on his cordless drills in a 5" diameter. I, on the other hand, have 1 cordless drill, so I can't even use the two chucks that come in the kit at the same time.
One of the harder things for me, as a newbie, is to know what order to use the pads in. The detailer told me the fluffy rag pads (white) are the coarsest, and I can pretty much tell the fine pads by the difference in the texture of the foam. Of course, if somebody could point me to the color scheme, which appears to be standard, that would be a big help. So far I haven't found that on my own. I have added some pictures to show the sequence I used, and also the results.
I'm using these with a combination headlight polish/uv protectant from the Chemical Guys. I felt reassured when the detailer showed me he was using the same stuff. That's a separate review.
These pads could be used on painted surfaces as well as the plastic polycarbonate (the clear--or tinted--hard plastic in the automotive headlight and rear view lamp covers.)
NOTE: If there is extreme pitting in the surface, it will polish clear, but you will still be able to feel the bumps. To remove these, first wet sand the pitted areas with about 400 grit paper. I recommend you do an initial pass with the furry buffing pad first, so that you can see the pitted area more clearly and only sand that part of the lens. Once you've used the paper, of course, you will need to polish out all the little scratches left behind.
NOTE 2: How long to polish with each pad? I found that after using the first couple pads, with the bristles, it doesn't take too long with each successive foam pad. I dotted the pad with about 6 dots of restorer/polish, wiped it onto the lens, then buffed it off in about two thorough passes. If any polish burned onto the lens, I cleaned it off with windex. At the end, I cleaned with windex, then I used a soft cloth to wipe on and buff off a final layer of the polish.
