It has 2 display port sockets but they are not for video output like they are on my Mac TB hubs. They are for input. If you already have a video card with 2 display port outputs, you connect them to the card with 2 cables they provide. Then the card will output video over Thunderbolt. This function might help someone but for me it’s totally useless.
The other thing that TB 3 is supposed To do is accept usb-c and thunderbolt disk drives and hubs with additional ports. I plugged a usb-c drive into this card and it did not recognize it. I plugged in a TB3 hub with the drive connected to it. The card recognized the hub but not the drive. Again, totally useless for me.
It seems that the only thing this card was intended to do was to composite video so that it could drive a thunderbolt display. If you have one then I guess is the card you need. Otherwise, I can’t see any use for it.
Oh, and by the way, if you plug a pcie power plug into the card (undocumented) it will pass through 100 watts of power to charge/run your new thunderbolt-equipped laptop. Like, who needs that on a desktop. You already have wall outlets and maybe a TB3 docking station that will power your laptop.
Motherboard is ASUS TUF GAMING H470-PRO (WiFi).
Totally disappointed with ASUS.
