I spent years thinking it was normal to spend 45 - 90 minutes falling asleep and just waking up tired. I followed the program in this book a couple of months ago and have now proven to myself that's not normal. I would caution people using this book that it is not necessarily easy or intuitive, but it is important to follow the program correctly.
I would also say this book goes against some things you'll read in popular media. I'm not going to say what the media presents doesn't have it's own merits, but I feel like this book is better prepared for modern life and much of what you read in popular media is more about evolutionary science. Our world has changed dramatically in the last 10, 20, 50 years with cell phones, the internet, and television, so evolutionary science tricks I think were actually harming rather than helping me.
Now a few months later I will admit I let myself slip on some of the principles but my sleep routine has been corrected to the point I rebound and don't wake up tired anymore. I even just took my first post-pandemic west coast to east coast trip (and back) and was able to experience zero jet lag based on what this book taught me (hint: don't even think about trying to sleep on the plane).
Please if you have struggled with insomnia get this book and read it! You might not need any other help by a Doctor. That is why the book was written.
