Major Design Flaw - ShortComing

I just received this product from a different store - and there is a MAJOR flaw.
Tha original Atem Mini had Program/IMAG out - but was lacking the Multi-view feature.

So the Pro version was touted as now having MultiView as a "new added feature".
But in order to use it you have to surrender one of its main previous features - IMAG output

It only allows the output port to do one or the other - we really need BOTH

Wouldn't you think that with a 4-in / 1-out switcher used for Live Streaming and/or IMAG
users would want to be able to preview the input/output choices as part of the IMAG or LiveStream production?

That was really one of the major implications of all of the Mini Pro product hype.

This is a MAJOR fail in the unit.

Good all in one, but OBS and cheaper alternatives do most of the things.....

Once I bought a few cheap $30USB 2.0 capture sticks for my 1080p Camcorders and EZVID mini cams, and got into OBS, I realized that I didn't need this box to do switching, sizing and basic overlays and media for streaming ( or even recording). OBS scenes are very powerful and with a Bluetooth keyboard I can easily transition scenes on the fly with hotkeys, etc. ATEM macros are very complicated by contrast.....Granted, I'm not trying for 4k. My Lenovo Thinkpad X1 laptop can handle one camera per USB input without getting confused. So, research OBS before you put your hopes on this in-demand box. You will be probably be using OBS anyway as your portal. Also, a small audio mixer and iRig Stream gets you good sound into your iPhone or PC stream.

A small switcher that packs a punch. Pro features but only has hdmi inputs.

Great little switcher. Definitely impressed with the capabilities of this atem mini pro.
Being a pro Technical Director, directing shows on Grass Valley, Sony, and Tricaster switchers, makes me extremely critical of switchers and their form factor and functionality.

Only a few buttons, and only hdmi inputs has its limitations. But using this switcher out the box, with the atem software that was already installed on my laptop, was able to do everything I expected and so much more. Was using it for a sub-switch for talent, controlling what they see on their screen like a down stage monitor, was originally using my 8th ME row with macros but was too many simultaneous clicks and I needed the row for other tasks. So I threw the atem mini pro in there, and was able to install switching software on tablet, and another person could easily do my sub switch from the tablet! Freaking amazing!

When I saw that black magic added the multi view to the atem mini, to this new pro model, I immediately purchased it.
It’s a small console, and everything has to plug directly into it, which makes a small console on a desk look sloppy. But has the power and functionality of the bigger atems all squeezed into this tiny package. I’m sold!

HDMI isn’t a pro format. But this switcher is a pro switcher, with all the pro options of the more expensive Atems, packed into a little package. It actually has some features that the expensive atems don’t. The ability to record on 2 thumb drives with usb c dongle. And the ability to stream directly to web without using a computer.

I’m happy. If you’re a pro or aspiring pro that uses console switchers and only need 4 inputs, this switcher packs a punch. Especially at this price point. On, some of my small jobs, I’m using this instead of my $50k tricaster because it’s smaller and quicker.

Pros:
Quick setup
Fast recording and streaming options.
Awesome multi-view.
Many other options
Cons:
It needs a PC for initial setup.
Has no WiFi for streaming unless you connect it to a laptop and share your WiFi connection with.

I was disappointed in this in so many ways. Watching all the videos before hand, thinking that was it, sadly no. Would have been better off buying their last version of this without the livestream feature. Most people will still use something like OBS along side with pro presenter or something like that. If your just using it for multiple cameras and gaming, it’ll be fine. Major complaint is there is NO HEADPHONE JACK to listen to the live feed. The multi screen port works well, nice display. The atem software is a pain to find and download. Had major issues getting the sound and video to line up when not using sound from the hdmi source. They finally fixed that. I recommend finding something else. There is nothing pro about this. Their cheaper black magic mini works just as good if not better if your using something like OBS and a single camera source. Or just buy the last version of this and you’ll be better off.
