I got the kindle edition. The first half of the book summarizes Dr. Bill's interpretation of the science. Dr. Bill is a gastroenterologist, not a writer, so I forgave him his verbosity and redundancy. Of the many books I have read on the topic, this book is the best in summarizing what we know about the connection between diet, disease and the microbiome of the gut.
You can eat a diet that feeds good bacteria that can defend you or you can eat a diet that does not support a healthy microbiome and lowers your immunity.
Not only do animal foods damage the microbiome, but they stess the organ systems of the body and lead to disease.
Healthy bacteria in the gut live on fiber. There is no fiber in animal tissues. Fiber comes from plants. Each plant has its own fiber profile that supports specific bacteria. The more variety you get in your diet of plants, the more diverse and strong your microbiome will be. A minimum of 30 different plants in your diet every two weeks is needed for a healthy microbiome. Only a healthy microbiome can produce the chemicals that protect the gut lining and build immunity.
The second half of the book is unfortunately not going to help beginners as it is overwhelming, not simple, and it is useless for those of us who are already living a whole plant diet. In fact, it breaks a few of Dr. Bill's rules in the attempt to coax beginners to try eating a more plant rich diet.
So, do buy the book and read the first half. Then take steps to improve your diet so you can build a healthy microbiome.
Do not expect miracles overnight. A healthy microbiome takes time to grow. And then, it needs time to heal your gut and all the rest of your body.
I gave the book five stars for the first half of the book. I wish everone would read it and start adding more vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, grains, legumes and fuits to their diets.

Unlike any other gut health book!2020年5月13日 - 已在美国亚马逊上发表
This book made me feel like I can actually EAT again. Doesn't give you a list of 100 foods you can't eat and doesn't feel like a fad diet (and not a diet at all). I also loved that the author gives you access to all his research - so you can look it up for yourself (probably won't, because I trust this dude). Really excited to help heal my gut with this book!
Love/Hate relationship with book2020年5月22日 - 已在美国亚马逊上发表
I have a love/hate relationship with this book...I have been eating plant based for years but always like to learn more. I enjoyed the first part of the book and like the writing style...little humor thrown in between the information. But as it went on it got a little too technical for most people including me. Seemed to drag on and on. When I got to the 4 week eating plan is when I lost interest. The weekly shopping list is 3 pages long and around 60-70 items including ingredients that are hard to find. On to the recipes...most are too complicated(usually 10 to 15ingredients) and most include something you had to have prepared previously(like the Biome Broth) people will not be able or willing to do this 3 times a day. I knew I should have waited for “real” reviews instead of believing pre-sale reviews. The message is good and needs to be told, but implementing this complicated plan isn’t sustainable. Sorry I wasted my money.
