Great switch but AV Access left out key instructions. I spent 2 days troubleshooting and I'm in IT. AV Access included the RS232 adapter. But you will need the following to get to the advance features. But once you do this is a very powerful HDMI Switch. Example my PS4 Pro thinks my 1080p monitor is 4K with HDR. I'm able to force 5.1 out from the optical port using the EDID command set. Keep in mind I'm using twin Dell monitors.
Items Used:
1. The most current driver for your com port or USB to Serial Adapter. I did a Windows Update for my USB to Serial Adapter.
2. DB9 Serial cable cut on one end or expose end. You will need only 2 of the 9 pin for the RS232 included adapter (2,3)=Tx Rx not in that order. Ground is not needed.
3. Advance Serial Port Monitor utility or software. Putty and Hyper Terminal would not issue the commands per API Command Doc from AV Access.
4. A complete understanding of the API Command Doc. The documentation is not written with clear understanding.
First I want to let purchasers of this HDMI switch aware that the commands from the AP Command Doc for me was a bit confusion. The line <CR><LF> Carriage Return / Line Feed is not needed in your command line input. Example doc says SET SW in1 out2<CR><LF> but the the actual command should be SET SW in1 out2
I'm going to rate the HDMI switch a 5 and give positive review. But it would've been nice if the manual included was complete and clear with the API commands. Also if AV Access would've included a DB9 to RS232 adapter cable. I'd paid the extra to have it included. I have no doubt support would've helped but I was very close to returning this HDMI switch before understanding how to get the advance features working. I'm only guessing that AV Access wanted to make sure the users knew what they was doing using the command line interface. This is my 4th switch and this by far the most powerful one I've ever owned. Others had failed to do what this switch does. I take no responsibility for errors or damage to your switch or pc. Only to share what I did to get it working for me. Out the box no configuration it's great but I wanted more. Hope this review helps.
