Useful, But Problematic

I'm a relative newcomer to the craft of needlepoint, having worked at it for a little less than a year. I started out using handheld scroll frames, but quickly realized that I’d be able to work more efficiently if both hands were free to work with needle and thread simultaneously . This lap frame stand looked as though it would be just what I needed and also provide a more comfortable work setup. Alas, it's proven to be somewhat less of a boon than I had hoped.

Once assembled, the stand looked as though it would be ideal, but things rapidly went downhill. No matter how tightly I screw down the many joints on the stand, something inevitably comes loose and the stand sags or collapses — most often at an inopportune moment, just as I'm trying to sort out a stitching error or when I’m trying to figure out a particularly confusing transition. Very tedious!

That being said, when the stand is functioning properly, it does provide a very comfortable and enjoyable stitching environment. Unfortunately, that comfortable status quo doesn’t last for long. Something always comes loose and the stand sags or collapses completely. Not recommended.

I absolutely love these frames. I bought the smaller frame to make my larger frame that I love more versatile. I wanted the side pieces which came with this frame to change out my larger floor frame. Now i have two frames for different needs which only require moving the side arms from one to then other. The floor frame stays at home and the other can travel or move to table on the back deck easily. They look beautiful and are very sturdy for cross stitch.

There is one caveat. The knobs at the end of the side support arms are loose and tend to pop out. I ended up gluing them in and now it is perfect.

Great versatility that fit my needs perfectly

I was looking for a table needlework frame and decided to give this one a try when it came up as a Warehouse Deal. I didn't want the typical clamp style frame, but rather one that has arms that you rest your needlework frame on. This one seemed to be everything I was looking for.
I've been using this frame for almost a month now and just love it. It fits my main requirements beautifully. It just barely fits on top of my corner style computer desk. I push it back when I need the front of the desk to do paperwork, and pull it forward when I'm ready to continue stitching. Because of the height of the desk top, folding the only cross bar down so that it rests on the frame feet supports gives me the perfect stability and working height that I need when stitching.
This frame is beautifully constructed with smooth wood components, wood knobs for ease in adjusting, and plenty of adjustment options with holes on the upper side arms, the cross bar, and the extension arms. I fiddled around with it quite a bit to get just the perfect setup for me.
I don't know how well it work as a lap frame since I don't intend to use it that way. For those using it as a lap frame, the distance between the feet supports is 19.75".
If you use it as a table frame, the width without knobs is 21" and with knobs its 22.25" wide.
The only suggested improvement would be if it also came with a shorter cross bar so that it would take up less space as a table frame. Other than that, I love it as it is.
When I decided to finally write a review on this frame, I was dismayed to see that it is not currently available. I hope that it comes back again some day for those stitchers who have the same needs as I do. I just count my blessings that I was able to purchase this one when I did.

Takes the pressure off holding frames yourself

A bit bigger than I expected, but still fits nicely on my desk. Holds my scroll frames nicely, which takes so much pressure off my bad wrist. I like the wooden knobs for adjusting the tension on the screws, so much easier on my hands than metal wingnuts. Also appreciative of the extra holes to adjust the placement of the arms if needed, I can see this being able to hold scroll frames of almost any size. Plenty of room on the middle bar as well, could probably easily attach a clip-on light or a small clip to hold smaller projects. Pieces I received slot into each other nice and tight, so there's not too much worry about them slipping out of place. A little bit on the pricey side in my opinion, but to me it was worth being able to stitch regularly without re-injuring my wrist.

This is the best needlework frame holder I have used. I love it! I had to stop cross stitching because of painful arthritis in my left hand, the hand I hold my scroll frames and Q-snaps in to cross stitch. I couldn't stitch more than 10 minutes without shooting pains in my left hand. Now with this needlework frame holder, I can stitch for several hours because it allows me to stitch hands free. Everything in it is adjustable to fit exactly where I want it and use with different size frames. I can move the arms inward or outward to accommodate different size scroll frames and Q-snaps and adjust the height of the arms for how close I want it to be. All I have to do is flip my needlework over to secure the threads on the back and then flip it over again to start stitching again. This is what I've been looking for so I could stitch hands free, and the free shipping with prime sold me. Best needlework gift to me ever!
