We purchased this backpack in black for one of our 7-year-old twins going into second grade. We got the small size because she is petite. The backpack is sturdy and high quality, especially for the price. There are three pockets, and the small size DOES NOT include the tiny front pocket as pictured, but she won't need it (the large size does have the small front pocket). It holds quite a bit. I fit a 1.5" binder, large workbook, thin spiral-bound notebook, and a couple small notebooks in the big pocket, a lunch bag in the middle pocket, and a few thin items in the front pocket. We could probably squeeze a lightweight sweater in, too. Each side mesh pocket will hold a bottle, such as standard bottled water or a Nalgene Grip-N-Gulp.
Note: We also ordered a pink and grey/silver from another seller in the large size, so I have included pictures of the large (pink/grey) and small (black) side-by-side for comparison.
We've included a picture of our daughter wearing it. She is 45" tall, 40 lbs. Our other twin, who is 46" and 43 lbs, will be wearing the large size but honestly, the large and small are so similar that either size would comfortably work for either girl.

I was surprised that this "large" backpack is as small as it is. Very slim, and not as wide as a US made backpack for sure. I out a 2 inch binder in there and it barely fits. If you see the picture, there is no depth to the backpack, I will have to pull the sides to make it go around the binder. That being said, it's for a 1st grader and it should work while she is small. No way I would use this on anyone much older. It seems well made and sturdy and the zippers flow nicely. You can see the size next to my hand. I'm 5'2. The backpack isn't big It's not as wide or deep as one that you are expecting.

My 3rd grader has been using this for 3 months now and it's still in perfect shape! High quality and the fact that it's a dark color means that it doesn't show dirt. The design is also adorable.2017年11月18日 在美国审核
Update! This backpack lasted the entire school year and still looks brand new! I would love to use it again this school year coming up but we all know how exciting it is to have their new clothes and backpacks for the new school year. So I donated this backpack and bought her another one of these in a different color. I've never been so amazed with the quality of a backpack for our young elementary and high school kids!
