Originally I thought I’d dip in and out to the bits of photo editing that I have difficulty with but soon decided this book is so explicit and well written that I’d better accept it as a text book. So I started to read it from start to finish to really benefit from all those features I’d glossed over previously and are there to help rather than to hinder you. That means starting with the Organizer!
The writer obviously knows his subject inside out, and has worked his way through the various versions of the application over the years. His range of photographic material to demonstrate features is varied and interesting though I’d have liked some full page photos of final edited pix.
I like the lightbulb symbol - things that are quick tips - and of course the well laid out contents with a complete index at the back: two very important features for the editor fairly familiar with all the options but who perhaps wants to dip in or recap something specific.
One thing other aspect also appealed to me: it’s readability. The paragraphs are separated by a line of space not just a customary indent. Personally I find this kind of layout easy to follow and far more relaxing to read - especially having the book in digital form.
My interest was mostly about learning selections which was covered comprehensively. There are some very basic subjects like fixing contrast, brightness and colour which I already understand but after reading about selections I am now finding more advanced (difficult) features which are fun to try out. One of my favorites was to make the canvas size bigger than flip an image to give different panoramic effect. I would recommend this book to my photographer friends. How about this version in Vietnamese?
