The Saturn is my favorite console. While I have plenty of original controllers laying around, when I saw news that Retrobit was creating new, officially licensed controllers, I was too intrigued to not check them out. The translucent plastic was a major plus as it fits right in with the cool N64/Dreamcast accessories of this time period that I look back so fondly on.
So how is the controller you ask? Absolutely spot on! I don't know how closely Retrobit worked with Sega on this, but it feels identical in the hands compared to original controller. Were it not for the slightly revamped visual design, the only difference I can spot at all is that the shoulder buttons feel less "clicky" than the originals, which certainly is not a deal breaker.
But the ultimate test of a Saturn controller must be the d-pad, so I fired up my import copy of Street Fighter Zero 3 and found that I could execute every move just as well as I always could with an original controller. The d-pad feels and performs identical to the original in every way as best as I can tell.
We will see how the controller holds up over time and I will adjust my review accordingly if I notice any changes, but this will be my new go-to Saturn controller. I could not recommend enough to get one!
