I have owned several smartwatches, including earlier Google Wear watches and the Samsung S3, and I’ve often been very frustrated when it comes to just getting the watch to tell time. I would either have to leave it on the “Always On” settings, or I ended up frustrated that the watch didn’t wake quickly when I looked at my watch. To me, 90+% of the watch function is to tell time. And, of course, leaving the display always on ate up the battery quickly.
This watch, however, doesn’t have that problem. The hands are always there, looks great, and I’ve never felt frustrated telling the time. In fact, I disabled the auto-wake function of the watch, and the display now only comes on when I touch the screen or hit a button. 2 days on a single charge is no problem for me. Was excellent when traveling, as the watch hands immediately reset themselves to the correct time zone as soon as my phone was turned on. Cool.
Now, I don’t read much on the watch. I like having the notifications there, and it works just fine for that. Do the hands get in the way a bit? Yes. If you were a heavy watch reader (why?) this watch wouldn’t be for you. But scrolling through a message is no problem, and you can read everything just fine around the hands.
Build and feel of the watch is great. Strap is just fine. I usually change these out, but might not on this watch.
My only complaint, as usual, is the proprietary charging. And, as of this writing, I can’t find another charging dock to purchase as an extra.
The extra software (compass, timer, stopwatch) that utilize the hands are nice.
This watch does not have NFC, heartrate, or GPS. But honestly, I use my phone for those. I wouldn’t purchase this watch if you plan to use it as an exercise monitor. Just doesn’t have the features. But I wasn’t looking for a workout watch. I wanted a watch to most importantly tell time, but also provide me with notifications, quick responses, and the utilities. This watch does this perfectly for me.
So far, this watch seems the perfect compromise. Perfect for telling time (something so many watches fall down on), and excellent in providing the notifications.
