I like this perch! Based on the previous reviews, I decided to wrap guaze around the perch to keep down the temperature of the perch since it is slightly warmer. I feel the temperature may be a little too high for small birds, but this perch does work efficiently for warming birds! My 17 year old cockatiel needed an extra boost in warmth since he's of age. He perched on it, but swiftly moved off once he warmed up & showed no signs of fluffing...LOL! The perch works! Please have this as a spare perch for seeking the relief of warming up including additional perches! I do not think the wire/cable will hold up in time due to the design of it, but I will see in time! Happy that I made this investment; therefore, I ordered another one for a sick parrot.

I bought this when i had three parakeets. Since I keep my home at colder temperatures than they need for comfort, I bought this to help them stay warm in the winter and when I have the a/c on. For the most part, they didn't use it. Probably because the perch part of it was too thick. Parakeets seem to like to perch on something that they can fully wrap their talons around. Since they weren't able to on this product, they didn't use it.
It's made well. The electric components are outside the cage and far enough from the birds to inhibit them from chewing on the wiring. Since birds are constantly chewing on things, that is a very smart design feature!
It gets warm enough to provide a bird comfort, but not too much to hurt them or overheat them.
Overall, a great product for medium sized birds and possibly larger as well...

Great peace of mind, but difficult install

My 8-month old parrotlet (named Zek) lives in the corner of my room, which is one of the draftier areas of the house. I got this perch to keep him, and his whole cage, warm. I keep a cover over the back half of the cage, where the heater is; I keep a thermometer on the cage, and since installing the heater, the top of the cage has been about 3-4 degrees warmer. I haven't seen him ever sit on the perch, but he sleeps on a perch slightly below it, and often rests his head on the heater, so I think he likes it. When I put my hand on it, it's definitely warm, maybe a little hot; and I'm wondering if it's too hot for him to sleep on. There's no temperature control, just plugged in and on, or not plugged in and off. However, it definitely gives me peace of mind that he is warm enough - or at least he would be warm enough if he wanted to sit on it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the cord has a metal bite guard over a good four feet of the cord. The picture makes it look like it is like six inches long, but it goes all the way to the floor on my cage (foot and a half tall pedestal, plus 22-inch cage).

Problems: I had an excruciatingly difficult time getting the stupid thing installed. Don't get me wrong, I love the perch, but it was not an easy install. I think the problem is that I have a slightly older cage, and the bars are pretty close together (3/8 inch??). The half-moon prongs that stick through the bars (which you screw the "nut" fastener onto) are closer to a half inch wide, so I had to bend the bars to get it to fit. I also have a bar running horizontally about two inches from the top, which is where I wanted the perch to go (so Zek could sleep on it if he wants). Since it only has a single vertical slit in the bolt (not a vertical and horizontal slit, which might have allowed me to put it over the cross beam), I had to choose to put it above the bar or below it. I also highly recommend you take the bird out of the cage to install the perch. Zek was pretty scared when I was (gently!) pulling all that metal-wrapped cord through, and then trying to bend the bars into place. I had to take him out and put him in his travel cage for most of it. That being said... It was definitely worth the effort to get the silly thing installed. I am pretty sure that he's happier with this perch, and I KNOW that I am happier.

It took a while for my Harley girl to actually use this perch and I’ll admit I almost gave up and took it out of her cage, but when I moved it closer to her favorite swing she finally tried it and now she loves it and uses it year round. I feel it took her longer to get used to it because of its smooth plastic texture and since every other perch in her cage is much more easily gripped. Don’t give up on your bird too soon and do try moving it around in the cage too. We all know how picky our babies can be about things.
The one place where I feel it can be improved is the power cord: It should be chew proof. Harley loves to try and chew it even though she knows she’s not allowed to. That is one thing I would warn others about, but other than that it’s great because it’s Harley approved.

It took him a few days to go near it but he's on it all the time now that he has found the warmth. There's is no temp control. It is factory determined but bird's happy, so I'm happy. Probably get a second one for the travel cage.
