My wife and I purchased the Maxi-Cosi Pria 70 Convertible Car Seat because it came in such cute colors and seemed to fit smaller cars like our Prius based on reviews. The installation was confusing and took two people and a great deal of effort to get it tight enough. The level line was difficult to find. But when our average-height two-and-a-half year-old daughter sat in it for the first time (rear-facing), her legs were folded up vertically against the back seat even worse than her infant car seat. Since there were only three positions to choose from, we reinstalled it in one of the non-recommended positions, but it was only a marginal improvement. In addition, the straps were difficult to tighten.
So next we ordered the Chicco NextFit Zip Convertible Car Seat for about a hundred bucks more. I was amazed at how easy it was to install -- it took literally seconds, no instructions required. With nine levels of adjustment, the seat has a bubble level to verify that it falls within recommended tolerances -- no level line needed. My daughter sat comfortably rear-facing without having to fold her legs, and the straps were easy to tighten and loosen. Though the colors aren't as fun as the Maxi-Cosi, the Chicco's easy installation, multiple configurations, along with a moveable cup holder and three storage compartments, make it the winner by far, and worth the extra expense.
