I purchased Lives Across Time because of a longstanding interest in child and adolescent development. This work is great because Massie and his colleagues have continued the work of Sylvia Brody's original work with children. Over 50 children and their families were assessed from an early age through about age 30. This book describes both the processes and the outcomes for these children. It provides insight on both those whose outcomes were as predicted and those whose outcomes were the opposite of what was predicted.
This is mostly prose with minimal statistics in the text or endworks. While there is a psychodynamic cast to the writing, there is an eclectic approach to the framework which describes the development of these children. Those who appreciate Piaget should not be disappointed.
I recommend this book to students of child or human development, parents who feel their children are not developing in a normal fashion and to all professional who work directly with clients.
