Update: it’s been a couple of months now. The sounds are not disruptive for us (we prefer the “shhh”/white noise one) and my kid understands the color system and knows he should stay in bed. It can’t make him listen, but he likes the item and understood the purpose right away. They’ve lowered the price from $45 to $30 as of this update. The product seems much more appropriately priced now.
Original review: The product arrived quickly and the packaging was sufficient. There aren’t many reviews of this product so far so I was hesitant to purchase. We bought it for my 2 year old to help him with the transition from crib to bed. We have not yet used it overnight so I’ll be reviewing the item itself and not it’s effectiveness (yet). The clock was very easy to set up without instructions, though instructions are provided. I did not set nap timers but there are only three buttons for settings (bottom) and they are very straightforward. You can use standard or military hours. This does not have an alarm feature. The thermostat is super sensitive so simply handling the product can greatly affect the thermostat reading. It took about 20 minutes of sitting on the shelf for it to align with our in home thermostat. The AC adapter cord is maybe 5 feet long. There is a single button battery, I think to just maintain the settings, not allow actual light or sound use. The nightlight can be turned off, but the brightness cannot be adjusted. It is very bright. The light is more red than orange. Fortunately, the light does not actually project past the machine itself so it doesn’t cast a glow that brightens the room. I still wouldn’t put this at eye level with your kid. I imagine it might be disruptive if they are trying to sleep. The facial expressions are fine. My kid seems neither bothered by or interested in them. The hair dryer sound is just that, but completely monotone (as opposed to the distortion you’d hear with a hairdryer moving while in use). The “shhh” sound is standard white noise. The heartbeat is not what I expected. It said womb. Which is fine. Our other sound machine says womb/heartbeat and it is a nice, slow steady sound. This sounds like an ultrasound. Which I guess would be accurate. But it wouldn’t necessarily be relaxing to me, and my husband is immediately annoyed by the sound. My kid is unbothered, but again, we haven’t tried this overnight yet. NOTE** The volume is NOT adjustable. It seems an appropriate volume, but it wouldn’t be enough for some families. The machine seems made well material-wise. There was some staining on the left side (sound side) where the red buttons somehow dyed the white housing. The machine was slightly smaller than I expected. I thought it would be nearly twice this size for some reason. I’m pretty sure that’s my own error and not a description error. The size is not really something I worried about regardless though. I’ll update this review when we’ve used it for a few nights. So far I’m happy with the product considering the limited use we’ve had in the last few hours. I do think the price point is a bit high at $45. I think $35 would be more appropriate for this item, but if it helps my kid stay in bed, I’m sure the price will be fine.
