With this supposedly newer replacement, I have the same problem, the battery is not up to their promise.
As you can see from the image , it claims to last 2 hours on high intensity mode ( very similar claim to the 850). I bought this lamp on 2020, and we are in February 2022. I use this lamp about once a week for most weeks except summer time that there's enough daylight.
So even though I have been using it for about two years, I only use it for an hour per week. that accounts to about 60 - 80 uses so far.
Today I decided to use my stopwatch to see how much it lasts on the highest setting, it lasted only one hour and three minutes on high luminosity ( 900 lumens). That is almost 50% less from what manufacturer claims.
Not only that, I have records from the same test on march 2020, and the lamp lasted an hour and 47 minutes, that was when I just bought it. So you can see that even as a new product, it never really fulfilled the promise of 2 hours on highest setting.
My guess is that manufacturer is cutting costs on battery, as we are in 2022 and there are great lithium technologies that can last much longer and won't degrade the battery life as quickly.
Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say. As long as you learn to live with a degrading battery. 900 lumens are plenty of light ( very similar to 850 lumens), it will let me roll even in the darkest streets with confidence.
As the battery is shrinking capacity, I have learned to use the medium setting (450 lumens) on slightly more illuminated roads and I save the most powerful setting for the darkest parts of my route.
Beware that it will not last 2 hours, I trusted them and it was a mistake as I had to finish my route in very dark conditions and of course I had to slow down a lot.
This is not the first review that complains about the battery life, their amazon page seems outdated and they are still offering 2018 and 2019 models as the 'latest' so my guess is the owners are not any more invested into progressing their products. Not sure if I would buy again from them.
