There’s a feeling that exists within every state, small town or city – an energy all its own. The smell of the air, the sounds of the morning and the memories that reside there can fill us with nostalgia when we return or rifle through mementos. These places exist in our memories, and though life often relocates us, the sentiment for our experience there remains.

However, if the purpose of the product is to smell like home then it fails miserably; or at least the Puerto Rico variety does. To me it smelled like a heavily perfumed flower (magnolia or gardenia?) with the slightest traces of coffee. Neither of those flowers is prominent on the island. My husband and mother thought they smelled vanilla (also not prominent on the island) and coffee. The coffee scent entirely disappeared when the candle burned. None of the other scents listed in the description (arroz con gandules y sofrito) were detectable in the candle, so I can't tell if the description is meant to refer to the memories the candle is supposed to elicit rather than describing what the candle SHOULD smell like.
In the end, I was really unhappy since I intended this as a gift for my mother who was homesick. She appreciated the sentiment - but if I had to do it again, I wouldnt have purchased it. I can't remember the last time I have felt this disappointed in a product that promised so much and delivered so little.
