The plastic at the base of the probe cracked making the thermometer fail. Despite numerous emails following up on a warranty submission LavaTools has failed to respond. I would recommend avoiding this company's products and their "Lifetime Warranty". Its not hard to offer a lifetime warranty when you don't honor it.

Stopped Working Well After a While

I really liked this thermometer at first. It provided accurate readings and the magnet feature is great for storage. Battery is good and the auto-shutoff helps with that.
However, after about 1 year of use, it began providing inaccurate readings. For example. It's 70 degrees F in my house, but this says -37. Take out the battery enough times and it may eventually end up reading correctly. Leave it turned off and stored for a few days and it may work correctly again. The problem then becomes not knowing if would be working at a time when i really needed it.

The WORST part is the lack of support from Lavatools. One of the main bullet points in the item description is a lifetime warranty however I have been unable to get lavatools to respond to multiple warranty inquiries. You fill out a form on their website and submit it, but they do not send you a confirmation, ticket number, etc on any kind via email. So you have no reference for the next contact. And they still have not responded to the requests i've sent (1 over a month ago, 2nd over a week ago). Poor customer support forces me to give this 2 stars.

Lifetime warranty backed by Lavatools???

This insta-read thermometer is great when it worked. However, just recently my thermometer has stopped working. The display shows an error message and turns off immediately. I have tried replacing the battery a few times but the issue still occurs. I noticed that Lavatools offers a lifetime warranty; however, when I contacted them about my issue a week ago they have failed to respond. I purchased this thermometer because of the great reviews and the lifetime warranty.

I have had this for a few months and it works great. I like the magnet feature that allows me to just stick it to my stove. I have also had the chance to test the waterproofing (the reason I chose this one) and so far it works fine. It's survived a few washes, and the deadly dip that killed my last thermometer.

So far it works exactly as advertised. I haven't exactly put the "water proofing" through the ringer, but it does read a fair amount faster than the last "instant read" temperature probe I had, and I thought that read pretty quickly.

After 10 months, went haywire.

This is best of many meat thermometers we have owned. Just as advertised - fast and accurate.

UPDATE: Stopped working after10 months. Blank screen when opened. New battery made no difference. Playing with battery resulted in -58 degree reading which did not show again after closed and re-opened.

Used about 10 times on roasted chickens only. Never abused. Never wet. Nothing but sticking it in a chicken. After reading other reviews, I can see there is no point in contacting Lavatools. Will be sure not to purchase anything from them again. A one star review said they could get the thing to work by pressing on the battery. After several tries, that seemed to help. I now have stuffed a wad of paper in on top of the battery and it seems to be showing correct temp now. To use in future, I expect to have to open and play with battery each time. That will make my other standard thermometers my first choice.
