Locate their mysterious Reactor Pods and place them in the Super Lab's center chamber. Chambers to create liquid reactions messy but fun

Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab comes with 15 pieces and 2 beaker creatures. The creatures are in a fizzy bath bomb that you have to drop in the water to find out what the mystery creatures are. This lets kid’s experiment with liquid substance and see their reactions. There is a main cup like chamber that is connected via tubings to two plunger components. You can use the plungers to suck the water out of main chamber or to insert two different liquids into the main chamber. There are two beakers and a stirring stick for the kids to mix things up. Both our five and nine year old like to see how colors mix together by using food coloring. They also used the main chamber to make slime. The toy is intended for kids ages five and up. Only negative was it was a bit tricky to hook up the tubings to the main chamber. Also can be a bit messy so would recommend putting a tray with a lip under the toy to catch any spills.

We tried out @learningresources Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab. It looked pretty exciting on and in the box, so we dove in. Inclyded were 2 Beaker Creature pods, 2 flasks, 2 pluging tubes, a stirrer, a beaker, the base, and tongs.

The Lab was easy to assemble. We used the flasks to fill the plungers, pushing the plungers to send the water into the beaker. Nothing happened with the first plunger. The second was very difficult to depress for the kids. We ended up pouring the water directly into the beaker. So mu h for the base.

We unwrapped and placed a pod (blue) into the beaker. Frothing! Colored frothing! After the reaction subsided, a capsule emerged. It reminds me of a vending machine capsule, with a similar toy inside. We identifued it using the enclosed chart. We did our second pod (orange) as well, with similar results and different creature.

We decided to follow additional content in the manual and mixed the leftover colored waters to make different colors.

Everyone agreed the Lab looked cool. They were not so impressed with the bath bomb toys and limited capabilities And what was with the inclusion of a slime recipe? Csn't do that with the syringes or base!

Overall thoughts? $25 and $12 2-pack refills are too much for a one trick pony.

My twin girls absolutely love the reactor! They got it as a part of a few different beaker creature sets.

That said, a bit if advice- I would NOT get this kit as your starter set. Instead, if this is your first beaker creature kit, get the alien lab kit with the smaller beaker and the collander to start. The reason being is that kit provides the tools and instructions needed to create new pods using things you can get from the grocery store. This way you're not having to constantly buy new pods and can just make new ones for the various experiments they list. If you get just this kit you don't get what is needed to make new pods, though they do include instructions on how to use the kit for additional experiments.

Make sure you pay attention to the instructions when putting it together and it will work perfectly and not leak. I will say that the instructions weren't super clear on how to remove the syringes from their holders at the beginning but it shows you how to remove them later in the instructions. Remove them properly to get water for the towers and don't just pour the water in and plug it because the water will flow into the container too soon.

In comparison to other popular toys that have you "mix and reveal", this is way less expensive and I'll be purchasing new creatures as rewards for good behavior and great performance at school. I recommend this for any kid that loves doing science experiments at home.

Glorified Bath Bomb Experiment

It's a cool set up with the beakers, plungers, and mini chamber but at the end of the day it's a glorified bath bomb experiment that comes with a little plastic toy.

Essentially, with this kit, you're putting one of their "reactor pods" into a chamber, then filling the plungers with water, and then watching it fizz to learn about how mixing acids and bases can give you CO2. Their explanation of the experiment is just one sentence "Acids and bases react to make foam bubbles called carbon dioxide, the same gas that we breathe out". It'd be nice if they provided a bit more of a robust explanation (like what are acids and bases and which is which) versus me having to do it.

The few other experiments that they suggest require you to use materials that aren't included in the kit such as food coloring (so that you can learn what secondary colors you get from mixing primary) or materials for slime.

At the end of the day, all these experiments can be done without the beakers and plungers. Want to teach your kid about acids and bases? Just use vinegar and baking soda. Or drop a bath bomb into the water.

Want to teach them about mixing colors? Use food coloring in a bowl of water or markers.

Sure, the kit makes the setting a little more fun for kids (versus pouring materials into a bowl) but at the end of the day, the enjoyable part is the actual experiment itself and results. My daughter had just as much fun using mason jars and pouring into a bowl as she did with the beakers from this kit (at least it seemed that way to me :).

At the price that they're selling this kit, it's a waste of money. They don't offer enough ideas and certainly not enough materials.

I think this was totally fun- the experiment is simple with a big reward. And yes, you could just pour water over the ball containing the creature, but that's not nearly as much fun. My six year old did love setting it up- and got a huge reaction out of it. He said, "I made that! I made that in my lab!" For older kids, the effect may be lost. My 3 year old daughter did one as well and love it. She wants the set to go with her doctor dress-up toys. There are other experiments, simple ones, that you can do- but the appeal of getting more Beaker Creatures is real- each kid has said they'd want more for Christmas.
