I have several high quality 4 string tenor banjos tuned CGDA - Bacon and Day, Vega , Richelieu , but when I just want to throw something in the car and to have available during some down time, I use the ac-4 - if you know how to tighten the head and set the bridge position properly, you should be a able to get a great sound of this banjo.
I was shocked at how good it sounds, especially because it’s light as a feather and you can’t beat the price. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another ac-4. And to think it’s made out of composite materials. Gold tone did a great job with this. I’ve tried the Rover model banjos in this price range and returned them immediately — they can’t compare to the Ac-4.
