Pro +2: pooping unicorn. What kid isn't delighted by a unicorn that they can feed and then watch poop slime?
Con -6: The instructions are poor. The materials are poor. The design is not age-appropriate. The slime is varying quality. The slime it very limited. Too much money for too little product.
This is such a confusing toy. The design is really not for children (i.e. complex), but the craftmanship is (i.e. junky). I want to like this toy, but I really can't recommend it, at least as it's being sold now. I bought this for my nephews and we did it twice. I'd already watched a bunch of "how-to" videos on the internet and went off-direction. I didn't shake anything the "full" amount. I shook the bottle for 15 seconds (instead of the 30s - 2 minutes in instructions) and then gave her a few shakes and set her to "poop". We waited about 10 minutes (during which time we cleaned the insides) and the slime was great. Nice and stretchy. The next day we tried again - same sequence, but terrible slime. Considering there are only 4 "food" packs and no refills available (buying a completely separate toy is not a refill - it's not a refill if I have to buy another unicorn, and it's not a refill if I have to buy the standalone slime-makers) a 50% fail rate is unacceptable.
So the materials themselves are poor. The "bottle" did not have a complete rim, meaning that some of the slime juice leaked into the lid. I honestly thought how they compartmentalized it was neat, but the design is not suitable for the 5-10 age range. The concept behind the spoon design is ingenious - if you press the end of the spoon against something it rotates, depositing the "food" - but it was obviously designed by someone with no experience with kids. I had three 5+ kids trying to do this and all of them wrapped their hands around the spoon - including the turning part.
So the food didn't deposit. So the kids physically turned the spoon, causing it to get stuck in the unicorn. The turning mechanism needs to allow for a five-year old's grabby hand. The dial on the back is difficult - it's hard to tell what position it's on and hard to switch back and forth - why a "dial" instead of just a switch? The first time we did it, the doll "threw up" as I was trying to find the position. It's not made for kids in mind. The packages should have tabs and for the love of all that is holy you should never have to add "half a packet" to something. There's already so much waste with this toy that separating the 4 "servings" of unicorn magic into 4 packs, not 2, wouldn't cause a difference to the planet.
At the end of the day, it's a cute concept, but poor execution. Young kids can't do this themselves, but the dolls are too low-quality to (imo) be of any particular interest to adults.
And it might be one thing to buy this for your kids if they could just "experiment" with it (I love the idea of just adding water to make slime) but with just four packets of "food" and no refills, they can't. It's a 4-time use toy, and I wish the people who answered the question asking if refills are available hadn't lied, saying there were. Refills are NOT available, and I would not have purchased this had I known this.
Also, if you are buying and a child wants a specific one, there is a slot at the top that you can slide your phone in and take a picture. You can then easily tell what poopsie you got.
