Well, this works as long as the battery holds charge. Like all batteries, it eventually starts to fail...but the problem with this whole setup is that these guys don’t sell their special battery pack with the exposed metal connectors separately. I contacted their support, wrote to their twitter and was ignored on all fronts. So now I have a $50 controller stand. Stick with the official play and charge kit from MS. Or any other company that stands behind their products.
This company does not allow you to buy replacement batteries. So as soon as it dies after a year of playing, you need to buy the entire kit over again. Incredibly wasteful!
The Battery would not charge when placed on the stand. The LED indicator light on the stand would not light up orange for charging or white for fully charged when I put the controller on the stand. I tried a battery from a previously purchased stand and the new base would charge it so the issue was with the battery that came with this stand. Since they do not sell replacement batteries for this stand I returned it.

As the holidays approach and I get more time to hang out around the house and the cold weather keeps me indoors I once again had a chance to dust off the old Xbox. I have an X1 from the day it came out back in 2013ish. With the kids playing around in the basement the tv stand was a wreck and I thought I should get some new gear and plop myself down for some play time. Ordered some wireless controller docks and specifically since it was from amazon only got the Xbox authorized branded ones to prevent the headaches of dealing with junk. Welp turns out that now is not the case. The abyss black dock seemed nicely priced and looked good on arrival. However once the battery pack was installed and I attempted to charge I noticed that the little light at the base was not indicating anything, which set off my spidy sense. After a little investigation turns out that the three little spring loaded contacts in the base don’t make contact with the battery pack properly when the cover which goes over the battery pack, which was sent with the base, is installed. When removed all works well and light indicates charge (just red or green). Either the wrong plastic cover was supplied, manufactured tolerances have slipped, or just a shotty design are to blame this is not an issue I would have expected to deal with in an authorized Xbox provider. So cool idea nice dock, but fails to properly charge as expected and now requires modification = * .

Great charger. Has a really nice look with the Gears 5 Controller. The base is well weighted so the controller won't tip out. It has a rubberized bottom so it won't slide around. Comes with a code for a supply drop in Gears 5. The battery life lasts longer then the charge & play kit Microsoft makes. Would buy this product again for my other controllers.
