Now, having said all that, I was taking a real gamble on this. I truly thought I'd end up giving it to my kid. I wanted it badly, though, because I have a rollator now so I can start walking in the park with my kid, which will hopefully help me not be so fat. I am extremely happy to report, that this worked even for my huge head and fat neck. It even still has room for my hair clip!
It is tighter on the neck than it is in the images, of course, but it is NOT strangling me! Also, it is not pressing so hard against my face and ears that I can't breathe or hear. It's also not the kind of poly that gets wet just breathing into it. And it's thin enough to wear under my hood, which is harder to breathe through (my hood has a face cover that is much warmer than this, but this allows me to take breathers without getting windburn).
So, if you have a really fat head, or just a really big head because you're a line-backer or something, don't worry. It'll probably be okay. If you have a bigger head than I do, you'll still have some room because it's stretchy. Dom Delouise could easily wear this. Fluffy Guy could wear this. I can wear this! Don't know about Shaq. His head looked hella huge next to Jimmy Fallon's, but maybe Jimmy's a little guy. My guess is you can probably wear it too. Give it a shot.
The balaclava covers your entire face except for your eyes, so with ski goggles, you have total face protection. No more raccoon eyes or chapped lips or cheeks.
Two small complaint or note, the material is not stretchy and the eye opening is on the small side. This makes trying to drink or eat anything pretty difficult unless you take the whole balaclava off, which is annoying. Drinking from a straw or camelback is the only thing that works decently. I didn’t wash them before I used them and there a strong smell, I would recommend washing them first before using.
I would totally buy these again. We just got back from skiing and these cat balaclavas got so many complements and smiles. Love them!
I bought it for use during skiing, and the material isn't too thick, so with a beanie, I think this is going to be perfect to help keep my face warm. I love the way it fits, and the material is soft so there was no irritation to my skin. It also stays very well, so as I've been wearing it around to test it out, I haven't had to adjust it at all!
I will definitely update this once I've used on the slopes!
Update 3/20/17 - I am so thankful that I had this on our ski trip. It started snowing, was in the 20's and windy. The mask along with my goggles kept my head warm. I did notice that the humidity from my breath would make the mask slightly damp around the mouth area, but even so, it was still MUCH warmer with the mask on then without.
It stayed in place as I skied, and didn't interfere with my goggles at all. Loved it!!! I also got several compliments on it. I can say of all the skiers there, I think my mask was the best!! :)
Inexpensive printing process means the inside of the garment is bland/white/unprinted. The dark seam around the eyes is a bit bulky and might bother you if you’re wearing a helmet too.
Material and stitching did not stretch and you would damage it trying to remove it from just the top of your head (leaving it around the neck). So not very useful except as a cheap helmet liner or gag for photos.
Material is not very soft (though I never washed it- I returned it immediately after trying it on once) and might not wick sweat or be comfortable in the heat (comparing it to a SA face shield).
Loved the face, lined up well with my features and was overall a decent fit. Got a few looks and it kept my face protected from the wind and cold.
