Gave it a 4 because technically it did (eventually) mold like it was supposed to... once I disregarded the instruction video. But will have to update once I actually sleep with them.
They say not to re-shape a piece once you do it the first time, but I did. (and it was fine)
If you watch the video (which terrifyingly opens up a facebook chat when you scan the QR code, which I did NOT want) he lays out 6 versions of the mouth guard, first one being straight from the box, and then various versions of... 'cooked'. The last three are "not suitable for molding", which is where I call that a big fat lie. (Image provided)
I have problematic teeth, probably from years of unknown grinding, thus the guard. So when I placed my guard into hot water until "just the edges started to curl" (per video), it was still too hard to get ANY sort of impression on my teeth (besides the bite down). I tried. I 'massaged' like it said to. But I was going to have to push hard enough to break teeth to get that plastic to mold as it was too cold I guess. I tried regardless, put it into cold water after, tried it back on... and because it had such a poor impression they just fell out if I opened my mouth.
So I gave it a day, put the previously molded ones BACK in hot water (I wasn't going to waste all 5 just to figure this out.) until they looked like 4/5 on their scale of 6 (6 being the worst), and then.... would you look at that.... I could actually properly mold it. I got impressions of my teeth all around, without pain. It fit, is relatively comfortable, and "stays on when you open your mouth/talk".
Maybe I'm just sensitive, maybe the plastic was too tough. Maybe it needs a "low and slow" heating instead of plopping it into hot water? It doesn't help that they don't give water temps, nor times, for any step. It's in water until 'the edges start to curl' and then you put it in and massage 'until you feel it's good'.
Will give it a try tonight to see how it actually holds up in use.
