This is a safe non toxic toy that my baby LOVES. I love Hape products but this “new” drum came with the pain peeling off. I’m not sure if it’s amazon... it most likely is, bc multiple items I purchased new that came don’t appear to be new or they are defective. I’ve kept most but I’m starting to get really irritated now. One or two items fine, but half of the stuff?? Come on Amazon, get it together.

It plays some fun pre-programmed rhythms when it's on its side and you can push the two different drum-sound buttons on top when it's upright, but if you push a drum button while it's on its side, it stops the recorded rhythm. This happens constantly when little hands are grasping at it, so it ends up being kind of disrupted and a little less fun than if you could play the drum buttons *along with* the recording. Don't know if that makes sense, but I just find it a little annoying to play with as a result. When baby is a little bigger, he might enjoy playing with it on his own, but for now I have to co-play with him and I personally find this one a little underwhelming.

this is a nice drum and my baby rather enjoys it. But he likes to turn it upside down, which shows, firstly, that the bottom of the drum could've been made with a little creativity, and second, that the sounds produced by the drum are way too loud, and there is no controller to diminish it.

This is a great toy if you love toys that make endless noise at all hours of the day and night for no reason. If this toy is on and you walk across the floor in the next room it will play loudly for several seconds. It has only one set of sounds so it is extremely annoying. It's bad enough when my child is playing with it, but that's only about 10% of the time it's making noise. Otherwise, I have to turn it on and off when I want my kid to play with it and then get up and turn it off when he's done. Not worth it!
