Best Mid-Priced Compressor Pedal

Yes, you could pay double the price for a high end boutique compressor pedal, but out of all the big pedal brand's compression offerings out there, I found this one to be the most versatile and transparent. It it based on a modified vintage Ross compressor circuit. I replaced an MXR Dyna-Comp with this. The Dyna-Comp, while it has a long vintage history, is *very* noisy, and squashes and colors your tone with a very specific sound that you can't dial out. The Keeley Compressor Plus lets your natural tone shine through while still providing great dynamics control. You can also dial in that squishy squashed tone if you need to, but with way less noise! The Sustain and Blend controls allow you to dial in as pronounced or subtle an amount of compression you want, while the tone knob allows you to do any EQ compensation if needed. This is definitely the best bang for your buck in a compressor pedal, just buy it, you won't regret it!

This pedal is killer. I love the adjustments possible, and also that if I switch guitars from single coils to humbuckers you can adapt to that with a flick of a switch. It sounds amazing, or at least I think I sound amazing with it engaged. Which is the reason you buy guitar pedals... to make yourself sound amazing. This pedal certainly helps with that.

Doesn't Compare to Boss CS-3

I've used a Boss CS-3 in my acoustic set up (for lead work over looped chords) for years. Based on the beaming reviews I bought this compressor thinking it was going to be great. I used it for about an hour and then I switched back to my old CS-3. The Keeley doesn't even hold a candle to the old standby. The Keely will be going back and the CS-3 will remain on my board. Now..... I'm using this on an acoustic so maybe the Keeley is only suited for an electric...... but in my opinion the Boss is superior in all aspects (except it takes up a bit more real estate than the Keeley on my board. It's not a bad compressor. It's just not the best. Oh!... and it's a slight bit noisy. Not bad... .but bad enough that I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 4.

While Robert Keeley makes many types of effects he is probably best known for his take on compression.

This is with good reason. He kills it.

Anyway, I believe this is currently his cheapest compression effect. So buy his more expensive ones if you can afford it, but you don't need to... this one's pretty much perfect.

Maybe some don't understand how important compression can be to your tone. So allow me to offer that, to my ears, it makes more difference that any overdrive I've ever played.

Still, I realize that we all love overdrives. So, maybe put this in front of your favorite and see what happens.

I put this in front of my Timmy and into a decent amp and really that's all I need.

Simple, flexible and sweet.

I am new to compressor effect use but this one suits me very well. I really like the blend control and the single coil/ humbucker switch. Does what it's supposed to do very well. Well built and looks good on my board. If you unpack it and turn it on you may notice a fair amount of noise. Don't panic, the sustain setting out of the box was set high so... it was noisy. Just back it down and start with knobs set low. Super good sound.. Very satified.
