Danger of bowel obstruction

I apologize to the company for making this a one star review as I’m sure from a quality standpoint it is on par with others. However, as I sit in the parking lot of my vet office deciding how much more care to give my dog I feel compelled to write this review.
On Sunday, my 18 lb dog bit off a small corner of this bone and swallowed it. I saw it happen. I know the risks of these toys and only let them play with them when I’m home. If I’m not around I pick them up. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the piece out of her mouth. My hope was that it would pass.
On Wednesday she became very sick and I took her to the ER where they performed emergency surgery to remove this piece which had lodged in her small intestine. These bones can get jagged as they are chewed and that allowed it to get stuck.
The piece was removed but during all her vomiting of due to being unable to move anything through her system caused her to regularly breath some of that fluid into her lungs.
As I sit in my car on Friday, three days later, I am devastated at her condition. She is not getting better and we have agreed to put a tube down to suck out the fluid in her stomach and try to give her nutrition to see if she can keep it down. As of right now, I don’t think she is going to pull through.
We don’t have children. Our four dogs are our children and this is beyond devastating. The piece was not much larger than a piece of dog food but the effects were catastrophic.

Again, no disrespect to this company. Nylon bones are popular. I would just caution pet owners that whether it is nylon or rawhide you aren’t always going to be able to get that piece out of their mouth before they swallow it. I personally will be sticking to rope toys and the like moving forward. If you use these products, please only give them to your dogs when you are around and if you see that they are trying to swallow a piece do everything you can to prevent them from doing so.

Update 10/13/18 - Princess passed away this morning.

Dangerous for Dogs

Terrible. Just terrible. This is the first time I've ever written an Amazon review, and it's because I feel that other consumers have a right to know exactly how dangerous this product is for dogs. I bought this Nylabone set after the people at the pet store recommended it and after the mostly-positive reviews on Amazon confirmed their effectiveness. However, as others have mentioned, the blue bone in particular does not hold up. That was my experience too for a dog that is only a moderate chewer. After my dog swallowed part of he blue bone that came apart the day I gave it to him, he became very, very, very sick. Thankfully, he was able to pass it on his own and we did not need surgery, but it took hundreds of dollars in vet bills and a VERY sick, sad dog to move past this product. I STRONGLY encourage anyone reading this to find a different product. Avoid the risk, and save your dog from the pain and your wallet from the veterinary expenses.

P.S.: if you look at the only negative reviews, you will see that my dog is not alone in this. I plan to write Nylabone to get some answers about why this product does not hold up as described on the packaging.

I've purchased several nylabone products over the past 2 yrs. Last June I bought a 3 pack of Moderate Chew FlexiChews for my small dogs (13lbs each). I opened this package for my dogs in January 2019. The evening of February 13, I found pieces of this product on the floor and saw 1 of my dogs eat a piece before I could pick it up. By morning, he was vomiting blood and pieced of the nylabone (see pic attached). He continued to vomit throughout the day and by evening showed no improvement. Following an exam & x-ray, the emergency room vet determine he had a blockage in his intestine which resulted in surgery at a cost of $2,000. The internet if replete with similar stories about this product some ending with the death of a pet. Buy something else for your pet to chew on!!!

If I could give negative stars I would. Our 9 month old miniature dachshund passed away last night due to complications from major surgery that he had to have to remove pieces of this product from his intestines. Thousands of dollars later and our sweet baby is gone. Do not buy this product.

DO NOT BUY!! I wish I had a read the reviews before ordering these. The same exact thing happened to my puppy who was only 3 lb. They break off very easily and your dog will ingest them and end up getting very ill. As I said my dog is a Very tiny 3lb Malshi And he was able to break this thing up with his tiny teeth, swallow all the little pieces and then got very sick. I had to take him to the vet and the vet also told me these are the worst and most dangerous chews for dogs! In my opinion these things need to be recalled and removed from the shelves That's how bad they are. My poor dog was throwing up all through the night and thank God I looked at it closely and could see all pieces of the blue chew toy.
Please do yourself and your puppy a favor and do not purchase these
