We bought both for our 2 year old to compare. We returned the kid kraft one because it was a bit smaller (narrow) & the back of the stool had an angle. We liked the Melissa & Doug size better & the fact that it had a straight back and lined up with her bed better. The only bummer with our Melissa & Doug stool was some minor paint problems & it had silver screws (kid kraft had white) but over all M&D was a better choice for us. Just wish it was priced a little lower, but it looks really cute in her room.
*pics show size difference, and the back angle of each stool against the bed, along with paint defects.

NOT a WOODEN stool

I don't know how this can be titled a "wooden" stool. It is not made of wood. I was so disappointed to find that all the pieces are made of low density particle board and covered in a cheap veneer. When I was assembling it, a whole screw went through the pre-drilled hole and the piece fell off. The edges of the hole where the screw went through looked like shredded cardboard. It's a very poor quality material. I thought maybe I missed something when I ordered, but everywhere in ther description it says it's wood. Be aware of what you're getting. I'm not convinced it would hold 100 pounds, and even if I was able to assemble it, I don't think it would stand up to my toddler. Disappointed because the dimensions were what I wanted, but this was returned.

Slippery as a bowling lane and not wood.

WARNING! The surface of this stool is as slick as a bowling lane. A child will slip and fall off this if wearing socks. Also, the stool is not made of wood. It is press board with a sticker that looks like wood covering it. I would not recommend this product.

This is just like the step stool they have at my 2-year-old’s day are, so she loves it both for reaching the sink to wash her hands as well as using it for a chair. The 3m rubber strips that come with it to stick onto the bottom are awesome. I deducted one star only because I dislike when things are called “wooden” and they’re particle board of some sort with a wood-look laminate veneer. To be fair, you’d need to spend twice the money for solid wood. I just don’t love that they call it “wooden” when it’s not made of wood.

Press-board, not natural wood

So far the stool works for the intended purpose; a childs step stool. Great for reaching a sink to wash hands or "helping" mom cook. I am, however very disappointed this item is press-board instead of natural wood. Had I have known this, I would not have ordered it, certainly not for $33. I spent a lot of time looking on amazon for a stool that was both wooden and tall enough to allow my child access to the sinks and counter spaces. I like Doug and Melissa products because they tend to use more wood than plastic and their toys are usually of a decent quality. The wooden element was important to me because I wanted a product that had a smaller carbon foot print/ less processing to produce, would be easier to repair if necessary and not need to be recycled or thrown in a land fill if not repairable. An issue I have specific to press- board, is moisture. I worry the press- board will eventually absorb water and degrade. Unfortunately, this was a last minute Christmas gift, so by the time we realized it wasn't natural wood, it was already Christmas eve so there was not time to return it and purchase another. Also, it's too heavy for my 3 year old to move. But it did arrive on schedule, so that we appreciated.
