Squirrels eat all the nuts from the young black walnut tree owned by a woman I work with. Her husband hasn't ever tasted any. I was delighted to find online your packages of nuts ready to enjoy and recipes for different ways they might be enjoyed--which I gave my co-worker at Christmas. Her husband said, "It was my best gift, and from someone I don't even know." He baked the nuts into delicious oatmeal cookies.
(Because my dad was involved in planting and harvesting black walnuts, it's part of my history.)

Black walnuts are my all-time favorite nut, so delicious. I love to put them in my morning oatmeal. The only downside is that they are expensive. That's understandable, though, because they are very difficult to remove from the shell in case you have a black walnut tree, like I do. I tried once and gave them up to the squirrels who are experts at this. I'm happy they come in a bag already shelled.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this product.

If you have never tasted black walnuts, I highly recommend you do not purchase this product. At least 95% of the negative reviews are from people who have never tasted black walnuts. It is unfair to give a product a negative review just because you do not like the taste when you have never tasted black walnuts before. If you have never tasted black licorice, then there is a very high possibility that you will not like it. Black licorice, at least in the United States, is not very popular. Even fewer people like the taste of black walnuts. Black walnuts have nothing in common with the traditional English walnuts, as far as taste.

If you have a look online, you will find out that black walnuts have a husk. That green husk has to turn black and mushy, before it is removed. From there you will have a very hard shell. Then you have to remove the meat, which is not easy. The black mushy husk will turn your hands black if you do not use gloves. So think about it… Do you think you will like a nut which is covered in something gross black and mushy? I highly doubt it.

If you’re new to black walnuts, I recommend you try and find a product which has black walnuts in it and taste it before you purchase raw black walnuts yourself. But it is not easy to find items which have black walnuts in them. Because… Quite simply… It is not a flavor that most people enjoy. I like black walnuts, but in moderation. Certainly I think that even people who like black walnuts before them in something like banana bread and so on.
