Had another slicer not too unlike this one. Paid seven dollars for it 30 years ago at the pottery barn in Mobile, Al. Thought is was just great. It finally broke. And I just found out it wasn't that great when I got this one to replace it. Every now and then you come across something like Knipex Pliers that you know can't get any better than it already is. This Benrinner jumbo slicer is one of those. Can't be improved. Its already there. Impossible for there to be anything better. And this one is never going to break. It's plenty wide. Wider than my old slicer, and likely wider than I will ever need. The narrower model should do just fine for most people, and if I was to re-order I would get the narrower one. I should mention that this does a perfect job of slicing and shredding, but if you want to do fancy things like say cut potatoes for waffle fries, then you would need a different type. For every day slicing and shredding this is perfect and gets the job done super fast, and it's very easy to adjust the slice thickness or the shred width.

Easy to use with excellent results. Quite safe as well, especially if you buy the no cut gloves. Sliced a whole ginger root very thinly, in no time. Works great for julienne as well.

I like the old one better...i want it to be easy to clean. This one has more hidden spots to clean. It works great its sharp and came on time

Using this tool requires skill, practice, strength, and more than a little courage. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. It will slice off a finger if you're not careful. Be careful, but not timid. I find the julienne blades useless for everything but turnips and the like, it clogs and mangles onions. Stick to the straight blade. Makes wonderful thin slices. It would be better if it were an inch or so wider to accommodate larger onions. Using this does create more waste (about 1/2 an inch of whatever slicing is mangled by the pusher/slicing guard. NEVER cut without it. Even so, it's fast and easy once you get the hang of it.
