While the pads are comfortable, feel nice, and do an okay job muffling outside noise, the sound quality and acoustics are a huge disappointment.
I've had the same MDR 7506 for about 20 years, and the sound quality is (was) phenomenal. My old pads had deteriorated all the way down to the foam, and I wanted to replace them. These pads looked great from all the reviews, so I was happy to pay a bit more for some decent pads.
After installing them (which was not easy at all), I immediately noticed that the sound quality and acoustics were quite different. The easiest way to describe the way they sound now is to pull your headphones away from your head about half an inch. Everything sounds muted, the basses have dropped off dramatically, and the treble sounds way too overemphasized. Basically like listening to cheap earbud.
I can restore the original sound of the old headphones by applying a fair amount of pressure to the headphones against my head, which makes think that too much sound is being absorbed by the pads or leak through the gap between the pads and the speaker itself.
I feel like I've ruined a great pair of headphones, and I would absolutely not recommend these ear pads. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix them, or a set of better ear pads, I am open for suggestions.
