Highly disappointed. I picked up a pair of these because I have always had good luck with mechanix brand. I got the leather ones because I work a lot with wood and wanted protection from splinters.
While they worked great on the first day, after only 4 days of moderate use, they are junk. Completely worn though, tearing open on spots, no protection from splinters. I would expect more than 4 days of use for a pair of gloves like this.

Comfortable enough to wear often, but don't expect much life out of them. Would not recommend

I really like these gloves and on a scale of other Mechanix Wear gloves, they'd probably be 4 stars. However, compared to actual goatskin WORKING gloves, they're very average. It's only been two weeks so I'll update for sure when they blow apart...and they will.

I'm only opening and closing long-winded steam valves (25" rising stems) to give them wear and tear, the rest is general small stuff and they're comfortable with the later. I frazzled and blew out the typical Mechanix Wear slip-on glove from the local auto parts store in a weekend which I felt fine about really; I didn't intend to really work them that hard when I bought those.

While waiting on a line to heat up on the other side of the valve, I did rest my knuckles on a steam line and it melted the plastic bit. I didn't notice until I smelled it, so that's a draw: Not heat resistant but it did melt the plastic before it got hot to the touch. It's impact rubber and not intended for that. I just feel this leather pair is grade above the typical M-pact/cloth type and just might need a different type of material to fit it's usage. I bought the cloth versions at the same time to compare the two and I wouldn't feel the need to use these at an auto shop at all and the cloth is just fine running a lug wrench or whatever. Leather palm just means harder work to me so that covers more ground than just holding an air tool or a wrench...think oil drillers, pipe fitters, and plant operators here please Mechanix Wear.

Thus far, I WILL buy another set of these. I just can't keep switching from glove to glove based on what I do as a profession so these will be a consumable item. I now just need to see for how long.

Good Motorcycle Gloves

Have always been a fan of MPact's as motorcycle gloves. The knuckle protection is so much more comfortable to me than the super hard stuff in most designated motorcycle gloves. I have a red MPT 2 synthetic pair that are almost 4 years old and only slightly worn, but still going strong having been through daily summer and spring use on my bike. Looking forward to this leather pair as the replacement. Love the look.
Update: I have dropped 2 stars off my review because of a major flaw in the construction of these gloves. The flaw is in the fingertips. These are well fitting gloves which is why they are great for riding. But, this pair of MPacts have the fingertip seams bunched and sewn at the tip which digs into your fingertips and becomes very painful in a short amount of time. Other MPacts are built with a gusseted fingertip which is how these should be made. Very very unfortunate because everything else about these is fantastic.

Before I go any further, I'm going to start with this. Do not buy these gloves for warmth. They don't add much warmth, and if they get wet in the cold, your hands will be cold. If you know you'll be wearing these in a cold climate, I suggest that you invest in merino wool glove liners, so your hands stay warm, even if they get wet.

Now, about the function of these gloves...they're awesome! I use these for when I'm chopping wood, and they absorb the shock from each strike fairly well. The padding on the back side is great for this purpose too. For anyone who's ever pinched their fingers while picking up logs from a pile, these will do a great job at prevention. They also have a pretty good grip to them, although admittedly not so much when they are wet, especially when you have an axe with a wood handle. Overall, these make great work gloves for anyone using an axe or hammers, and things of that nature. Just make sure you buy the right size.
