EDIT: I've had the TOAST Skin on for a while, and it has not presented any issues except one: the button stickers have a tendency to shift slightly - not a crisp or smooth contact like if you're using some other cases. Still, snags and peeling have not resulted from heavy daily use, so I'm extremely satisfied!!
Firstly, I was a little surprised by how thin and delicate the cover was. I like to think that my model building hobby makes me careful, but my first instinct was to pull the cover out in a hurry (heck, I'd waited a while, so I was impatient). Fortunately, there is a notice written on the side of the paper casing which says to be careful when opening. The kicker is that you need to peel open the case to discover this, so maybe having a little more of a heads up on the outside would have been nice.
Opening the paper casing gives access to the application instructions (printed on the case itself) along with a small plastic bag with the camera/sticker button covers and the hexagon wooden pieces displayed in the center of the phone's back. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they include 4 pieces of each type of wood, so a little bit of extra customization was a fun discovery.
The application process took me around 12 minutes. It might seem tedious to some, but I was in the market for a case which was fun, unique, and added a personal touch to a device which is present everywhere around me (Seoul). I worry about the corners of the case because they do not fit flush together - some of the edges are propped up against one another and will undoubtedly snag. After completing the rest of the stickers, I revisited this step (#7) and found that they can settle into place with a little more rolling. Learn from my mistake! Don't move past step 7 until all of the corners fit to your satisfaction! Still, I found this step the most frustrating since the smaller pieces of wood would peel back and shift while I rolled other corners.
Inlaying the hexagon pieces and camera/button stickers was much easier and also made me much more comfortable with my alignment. The volume and screen lock buttons might not fit perfectly into their slots cut into the main case, but adding the button covers allows them to get that extra few millimeters so they are accessible comfortably. I am a little worried these (the button stickers) will snag, but time will tell.
Now I'm admiring what is undoubtedly one of the most elegant and aesthetic cell phone cases I have seen. But the review must go on, so here come some pros and cons!
-Gorgeous and snug fitting. Barely feels like you stack any width or thickness to the phone.
-Adds an aesthetic, natural element to a piece of tech I'll use for years.
-Unexpected hint of customization was a fun little plus.
-Edges MAY snag and set unevenly (this is an installation risk, not a fault of the product itself imo).
-Installation time is longer than what some might expect.
-The thinness of the case makes it clear that this is NOT a protective case. If you're accident-prone and looking for a way to stave off paying an insurance fee on your contract, pick up something made of thicker material.
