In 1862, Coopers brewery operations were located close to an area known as the Devil's Half Acre. This rather intimidating name stemmed from the somewhat menacing people that frequented the neighbourhood. As such, it had a reputation for being a place to steer clear of at night. This devilish brew is inspired by the shady characters of the Devil's Half Acre. As black as the sinister night, this full bodied Porter has ruby hints, delicious chocolate toffee malt character, moderate bitterness with fruity hop notes and a rich creamy head. It's sure to bring out your dark side.

I purchased the Coopers Stout Can (with Brew Enhancer 2). I have to say that the brewing and bottling experience was enjoyable, but unfortunately the finished product has been disappointing. While I didn't expect it to have the mouth feel of a Guinness, I didn't think that it would be so thin (kind of like a lite beer). Also, what I initially thought was a watered down malt taste can better be described as slightly metallic. After doing some internet research, I'm led to believe that maybe some of my ingredients may not have been the freshest. The Brew Enhancer arrived with the consistency of a brick. At the time I didn't think anything of it, as it quickly dissolved in water, but it makes me think that it may have been exposed to air. At this point I'm not sure what to do, as the only way to drink it is to mix it with another stronger beer. It's either that or pour 5 gallons of beer down my kitchen drain. I'm thinking that this is an abnormality, as I've read about many happy customers, but don't really want to go through this experience again.
I have had good results with all the Coopers malts so far, and this is a great one for your friends who are used to macro brews. It has very good taste, but isn't so hoppy or malt heavy that it will give them pause.
