-- 1 cup holder vs 2 (however she can reach it in the MySize and not in the 4ever
-- only 3 recline adjustments vs 6 (I believe you still get the same range of recline, but not the in-between stops)
-- slightly different release latches for the straps - we actually prefer the MySize as it is easier to find and lift up vs pressing down
-- shoulder strap covers extend to go underneath the chest buckle on the MySize vs normal covers on the 4ever. I think the MySize style would be more comfortable with these straps.
-- comfortable head rest cushions on the sides vs a cushion that seemed to push her head forward so I removed.
They both have:
strap slots on the sides to hold the straps while placing the child in
easy headrest/strap adjustments with one quick slide
removable liner for washing - I think the MySize might be a bit easier, though we haven't done it for either yet.
People state the buckle is not long enough on this seat. It is a matter of rethreading the buckle on the bottom side and it is very easy to adjust before you install the seat in your vehicle. I believe people are adjusting the position through the fabric slots only and missing the adjustment on the plastic of the seat. The entire buckle removes and slides through a different slot based on the position so it will remain the same length if you do it correctly. It is sufficiently long if done correctly.
I tried this seat in the store and thought it seemed difficult to adjust the strap length when she was sitting in it, but the new one does not seem to be an issue at all. I'm not sure what causes that. I'll try to update if it becomes an issue.
Going into the purchase, I figured the 4ever would feel superior in the safety as well. This one feels just as safe. The seat fits well in the vehicle, and does not wiggle around. I've heard others mention (about other seats - Milestone in particular) that the top of their carseat can wiggle because the base is narrow or a pedestal style, but this is not the case. The seat is low on the base and the base is wide.
If we were buying again, we would go with the MySize again over the 4ever because the extra money doesn't seem to give you any valuable features and I actually think this one will be more comfortable for her. (shoulder strap covers going underneath the chest buckle, headrest cushion seems to fit better, and can reach the cup holder)
Update-I originally thought you had to completely remove the car seat to adjust the buckle underneath but I was able to reach it and move it without removing the seat.
We decided on this specific Graco model particularly based on other reviews stating the seats worked well in compact cars. While the Graco car seat does take up a little bit more room than the infant seat does, it’s doesn’t sacrifice more leg room from the driver or passenger front seats. I am tall, so having enough leg room is crucial. The other key aspect of getting these seats was because they would last for many years, up to 65 lbs. You can quickly tell this is a quality seat and will hold up well to daily use.
I was most attracted to the price in relation to the various features. The great thing about the car seat is the fabric can be easily removed and washed when needed. Strap heights can be easily adjusted by pulling up on the handle (rethreading straps is not an overly enjoyable task). There are little pockets on both sides of the seat to easily store the buckle until use. I have impatient toddlers (really who doesn’t?), so being able to put one in the seat and easily buckle them up without fishing for their straps is a lifesaver! While I cannot speak to the comfort of the seat, there seems to be a lot of room and both of my twins look rather cozy while strapped in. The fabric is also very soft and much thicker than their infant seat.
Lastly, the installation of these seats was very easy and straightforward. If you’ve installed a car seat (infant or convertible), there isn’t anything new here. If you’ve never installed a car seat, you definitely shouldn’t have issue. Both the installation manual is clear and straightforward and information on the seat is well labeled. The Forte’s back seat dips and it can be really annoying with car seats and getting them level but this one was level from the beginning. Overall, I am very, very satisfied with my purchase!
In the pictures, you can see how the Graco seat compares to the infant seat. Also, my twins are 15 months, 30" tall and weight about 22 lbs each.
UPDATE 2020: my twins are now 4 and we are still using these seats! They've worked well as my twins have grown. They still have plenty of room and we don't see getting rid of these anytime soon. We've been on multiple long car trips and my twins were able to sleep without being uncomfortable. I've probably washed the removable covers about 5 or so times and they have held up well. I do a deep cleaning on the entire seats about once every 6 months. No issues there, food and such comes off easily with a Clorox wipe. These aren't the smallest seats but have been easy to move to other vehicles as needed. I do wish there was another cup holder but having one has been nice. Four yrs later I can say getting these particular car seats was completely worth it!
