Terrific book filled with information about the moon as well as history of how that information was obtained. Excellent nonfiction source for middle grade readers, especially those who love space and the solar system. Clear, concise, and easy to understand. Outstanding pictures.

Very engaging read about the moon. Perfect for introducing young kids to more in-depth details about it.

Well, I downloaded it originally to read with my six year old, only to swiftly discover that this was more than a little above her level. Anyways, once I realized I’d be reading this just for me, I actually quite enjoyed it. I know its aimed at older kids, but it was a fascinating read for me.
The part about the moon landing (the author is able to ground the experience in a way that makes it more real) was especially fascinating. I knew the moon landing happened, obviously, but it’d sort of been confined to that 10 second television clip, and so on. So it was definitely neat! Also, that someone before Galileo had mapped the moon. I mean, that’s just one of those things you associate with Galileo, so to find out he wasn’t the first was surprising.
Now, this was an ARC copy I reviewed, so there were a few diagrams that hadn’t been put into place yet, but the images, maps, etc, that were there were very interesting. (Especially the dark side of the moon!), and the lunar lawnmower idea was absolutely awesome, and I want to see a prototype in action!
The author does a great job of likening harder to grasp concepts to things its easier for younger minds to understand, without making it seem as if she’s talking down to anyone. This was a wonderful book and I absolutely recommend it for ANYONE age 9+ who is interested in astronomy at all. Fantastic job by the author!
Disclaimer: I received a free copy from Netgalley for review consideration.

Excellent insights into the moon and how scientists work

Wonderful book about the moon with all sorts of terrific stories woven in about how various discoveries have been made. I especially love the emphasis on how science in general works: We might think we know something right now, but then when we make new discoveries, we adjust our understanding.
